Job Description

Hennepin Healthcare is a comprehensive, integrated healthcare system serving Minneapolis and the broader Hennepin County area. It includes the renowned Hennepin County Medical Center (HCMC), a nationally recognized Level I Adult Trauma Center and Level I Pediatric Trauma Center, as well as a 473-bed academic medical center. The presence of multiple primary care clinics strategically located throughout Minneapolis and surrounding communities ensures accessible healthcare services to diverse populations. In addition to acute and outpatient care, Hennepin Healthcare has substantial psychiatric programs, home care services, a research institute, a philanthropic foundation, and operates Hennepin EMS. This multi-faceted system is operated by Hennepin Healthcare System, Inc., a subsidiary of Hennepin County. The organization is deeply committed to equity, diversity, and inclusion, actively striving to eliminate barriers related to racism, poverty, gender identity, and other social determinants of health. It values fostering an environment that promotes belonging and celebrates cultural diversity, ensuring equitable care and optimal health outcomes for all patients and community members.

The Food Services department at Hennepin Healthcare is currently seeking dedicated culinary professionals to join their team. This role involves assisting in the preparation and presentation of food for patients, employees, visitors, and special functions, all under the supervision of a chef or baker. Responsibilities include preparing a range of meal selections such as hot cereals, soups, gravies, roasts, breads, and desserts including pastries, cakes, and cookies. The role requires operating various kitchen appliances like ranges, tilting brazier pans, slicers, choppers, steamers, steam jacketed kettles, and mixers to maintain kitchen efficiency. The cook also supports the sanitation and maintenance of kitchen equipment, ensures compliance with standardized recipes, performs quality and quantity checks, and adheres to proper methods of food receiving, handling, and storage.

In addition, the position involves back-up support for other cooks and may include preparing special food items according to dietary restrictions. Assisting with food order placements, monitoring ingredient supplies, and scheduling daily food preparations based on patient and cafeteria menus are also part of the duties. The role may extend to supervising and training kitchen workers, including residents or inmates in a correctional kitchen work program. Working a full-time schedule of 80 hours per pay period with days and evenings shifts including every other weekend, this opportunity offers a dynamic work environment within a unionized setting. The pay ranges from $21.35 to $26.56 per hour, commensurate with skills and experience. Hennepin Healthcare offers a rewarding career with substantial total rewards, including comprehensive health benefits, paid time off, tuition reimbursement, and retirement plans, making it an excellent choice for culinary professionals looking to make a meaningful impact through their work.
