Job Requirements
- Moderate physical effort including frequent handling of medium weight objects (20-50 lbs)
- Ability to operate kitchen equipment such as slicer, mixer, grills, oven, tilt skillet, freezers, knives
- Willingness to work in variable temperature environments including freezers at -20 degrees
- Ability to move boxes weighing up to 50 lbs multiple times daily
- Ability to work in fast-paced kitchen environments
- Must be a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and hold a current temple recommend
- Physical exam and lift test required
Job Qualifications
- A firm commitment to the mission of BYU
- Minimum of 1 year experience in food service
- Graduation from culinary school and at least 2 years experience in food service preferred but not required
Job Duties
- Use recipes to prepare food
- Gather ingredients and materials needed to perform daily production
- Follow proper procedures for storing and preserving food including FIFO and allergen control
- Maintain cleanliness of work and prep area
- Ensure coolers and freezers are organized and ingredients are labeled, dated, and rotated correctly
- Support efficient, high-quality meal service in a fast-paced dining environment
- Assist in maintaining smooth kitchen operations during peak service periods
- Prioritize production order and student staffing under Cook II guidance
- May oversee and provide guidance to student employees
