Job Description
GAP Ministries is a reputable non-profit organization dedicated to serving communities through various outreach programs, including food services. Their commitment extends beyond merely providing meals; they aim to nourish both the body and spirit of those they serve by reflecting compassion, purpose, and service at all times. As an organization deeply rooted in strong values and excellent service, GAP Ministries seeks to exemplify servant leadership, integrity, teamwork, and respect among their staff, volunteers, and clients. Emphasizing a hopeful and encouraging attitude, GAP Ministries provides not only physical nourishment but also emotional and spiritual support designed to uplift and empower individuals and families in need.
The GAP Kitchen, a vital program within GAP Ministries, plays an essential role in fulfilling the mission of the organization by preparing and delivering nutritious meals for various programs including mobile meals, catering events, schools, and daycares. The kitchen operates under strict health and safety standards, ensuring that every meal is prepared with care, meets regulatory compliance, and is delivered promptly to its destination. The team works in close collaboration with volunteers, interns, and staff, fostering an inclusive and educational environment where culinary and life skills development is prioritized.
The role of Cook 1 at GAP Ministries is both essential and rewarding, offering part-time or full-time employment with an hourly wage of $16.50. Reporting directly to the Sous Chef, the Cook 1 supports the kitchen’s daily operations under the guidance of the Executive Chef and Chef de Cuisine. This position involves food preparation, recipe development, menu planning, and ensuring quality control across all meals. The Cook 1 also assists in managing kitchen cleanliness and health safety standards, complying with ServSafe, NSLP, CACFP, and other regulatory guidelines. Beyond meal preparation, this role requires collaboration in coordinating catering events, mobile meal delivery, and after-school feeding programs, making it a dynamic and community-focused position.
Serving in this capacity demands physical stamina and attentiveness as the work requires standing for extensive periods, lifting heavy items, and operating various kitchen equipment. This safety-sensitive position involves working varied hours, including nights and weekends, and maintaining a positive and respectful atmosphere in the kitchen and during service delivery. The Cook 1 is also expected to assist in training volunteers and staff on kitchen policies and food hygiene, contributing to the overall success and safety of the kitchen environment.
Overall, the Cook 1 role at GAP Ministries offers a unique opportunity for culinary professionals passionate about community service to exercise their skills in an environment that supports leadership development and personal growth, all while making a tangible difference in the lives of those served by the ministry.
