Job Description

The Convention Services Coordinator position is an integral role based in San Francisco, dedicated to enhancing the experience of convention visitors at the Moscone Center and its surrounding areas. The coordinator works closely with city department liaisons and community partners to streamline and implement daily operational plans that maximize the success and smooth running of convention activities. As part of a vibrant team, the individual helps to retain and revitalize the convention business in San Francisco, contributing meaningfully to the city's broader economic recovery efforts. This role requires a motivated professional ready to drive initiatives that create a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for all visitors to the city attending conventions.

This role emphasizes a collaborative approach to managing conventions, ensuring that all operations—from pre-event coordination meetings to post-event assessments—are handled efficiently. The Convention Services Coordinator is responsible for organizing coordination activities such as client meetings prior to conventions, daily briefings among key stakeholders, and debrief sessions after each event to evaluate successes and identify areas for improvement. This ongoing cycle ensures an adaptive and responsive operation that supports an exceptional visitor experience. The role also requires close communication with various city departments and community partners, fostering strong collaborations that amplify the impact of the city's convention activities.

In addition to coordination efforts, this role involves developing and managing satisfaction surveys directed at attendees and event planners. Through careful analysis of this data and industry benchmarking, the coordinator recommends operational, programmatic, and policy changes that enhance the overall convention environment. Moreover, the coordinator plays a pivotal role in community engagement by connecting event planners with local city representatives for speeches, initiatives, and community service activities that enrich the convention experience. This role also requires outreach to local businesses to promote awareness campaigns and welcome messages that support convention activities in the Moscone area.

Collaboration with multiple organizations such as the Moscone Center itself, Yerba Buena Gardens Conservancy, Yerba Buena Community Benefit District, and the Union Square Alliance is essential to increase activation and beautification initiatives that make the convention environment attractive and inviting. The role also explores innovative programs like developing internship opportunities with educational institutions such as San Francisco State University’s Hospitality program, which supports survey efforts and event activation programs.

Overall, the Convention Services Coordinator is a key player in ensuring that San Francisco remains a top destination for conventions by managing operations, enhancing partnerships, promoting community engagement, and continuously improving the convention experience for visitors and stakeholders alike. This full-time role presents a unique opportunity for individuals passionate about hospitality, event coordination, and city-wide collaboration to contribute significantly to the city’s economic vitality and global reputation as a premier convention destination.
