The Convention Porter role at The Venetian Congress Center is a vital position responsible for the seamless setup and breakdown of all convention areas. This role plays a key part in ensuring that meeting spaces are arranged according to Banquet Event Orders with safety and efficiency at the forefront. As a Convention Porter, you will work closely with the Meeting Services department to perform setup, breakdown, and maintenance duties while adhering strictly to the department and resort’s policies and procedures. This is a safety-related position, emphasizing the importance of working in non-hazardous ways to avoid injury while supporting the smooth operation of convention activities. The position requires a hands-on approach, including moving and delivering convention freight and packages across the facility to meet guests' and clients’ needs.
In addition to physical labor, the Convention Porter is expected to provide exemplary guest service and teamwork, communicating effectively with coworkers and guests of diverse backgrounds. The role demands consistent attendance, flexibility to work varied shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays, and the ability to manage physical requirements such as lifting up to 50 pounds and standing or walking for prolonged periods. Attention to detail, safety awareness, and adherence to company standards of conduct are essential. Job Requirements
- 18 years of age
- Proof of authorization/eligibility to work in the United States
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a SNHD Health Card and any other required certifications or licenses
- Ability to stack and set up tables, chairs, and related equipment used in meeting rooms
- Must be physically capable of lifting or carrying 50 pounds unassisted
- Ability to physically access all areas of the property
- Maintain composure under pressure and meet deadlines
- Ability to interact appropriately with guests, management, team members, and outside contacts
- Ability to walk, stand, stretch, bend, and kneel for prolonged periods
- Ability to work indoors exposed to environmental factors such as CRT, noise, dust, and cigarette smoke
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- At least one to three months or equivalent job experience
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English, both spoken and written
- Strong interpersonal skills to communicate with guests and team members of diverse backgrounds
- Ability to follow directions with minimal supervision
- Must be able to work varied shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays
Job Duties
- Perform all setup, breakdown, and maintenance duties of the meeting services department
- Operate cleaning machines safely and properly
- Complete all Meeting Services setups in a timely fashion
- Work in a non-hazardous manner avoiding self-injury and unsafe work methods
- Deliver and move convention freight and packages as required throughout the facility
- Provide service or assistance to meet the needs of guests, clients, or customers
- Set up rooms and meeting spaces according to Banquet Event Orders
