The Project Manager I role at Mortenson is a critical position responsible for leading construction projects with professionalism, flexibility, and resourcefulness in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. This role requires a highly organized and proactive leader capable of managing project quality, timeliness, and safety while fostering strong relationships with customers and mentoring project team members. As a Project Manager I, you will oversee the financial health of your projects, manage contract negotiations, and navigate vendor procurement processes. Your leadership will be pivotal in maintaining project schedules, budgets, and ensuring that all operational elements align with Mortenson's high standards.

The position offers a competitive base pay range of $113,500 to $170,300, with potential adjustments depending on office location, individual experience, and skills. Additional compensation includes eligibility for Mortenson's incentive plan, enhancing earning potential aligned with performance. This role does not offer visa sponsorship and requires candidates to be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Key responsibilities include managing financial projections, supporting EPC contract negotiations including technical exhibits and schedules, leading vendor procurement, overseeing subcontractors and suppliers, handling contract management and change orders, and developing assistant project managers and project engineers. Candidates must demonstrate strong communication skills, a solid grasp of construction law and best practices, and proficiency in Microsoft Office, project management software, and pertinent web applications.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction, Civil, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or Construction Management, or equivalent experience
  • Minimum six years of related previous experience
  • Proven ability to assist with all responsibilities for complex projects
  • Detail orientation sufficient to organize and manage multiple project tasks
  • Possess basic understanding of construction law and generally accepted business practices
  • Microsoft Office, project, and pertinent web application skills at an intermediate level
  • Proven positive and professional attitude
  • Ability to interpret and communicate Mortenson policies
  • Current driver’s license
  • OSHA 30 Certification

Job Qualifications

  • Preference for candidates with experience in one or more of the following: commercial construction, renewable energy project development, EPC contracting, or emerging technologies
  • Microsoft Office, project, and pertinent web application skills at an intermediate level
  • Proven positive and professional attitude, and strong customer service skills
  • Ability to interpret and communicate Mortenson policies
  • Current driver’s license
  • OSHA 30 Certification

Job Duties

  • Manage overall financial health of projects
  • Support and lead EPC contract negotiations, including technical exhibits and project schedules
  • Lead vendor procurement and bid/award phase for major subs and suppliers
  • Develop and maintain project financial and equipment projections
  • Allocate project estimate into financial system, determine cost codes, approve invoices
  • Provide financials and billings to accounting, create monthly owner billings
  • Manage subcontracts and suppliers, oversee budget and selections of trade partners
  • Handle billings, contract management, and change orders
  • Manage and develop Assistant Project Managers and Project Engineers, approve timecards, provide feedback
