Job Description

Wood is a globally recognized leader in engineering and consultancy, specializing in energy and the built environment. With a presence in over 60 countries and a workforce of approximately 40,000 dedicated professionals, Wood is committed to delivering innovative consulting, project management, and operational solutions that address some of the most critical challenges facing the world today. The company prides itself on fostering a diverse and inclusive workforce, ensuring equal opportunities for all qualified candidates regardless of race, color, age, religion, gender, national origin, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, veteran status, or other protected characteristics in compliance with governing laws.

Wood's Durham team is expanding and currently seeks Construction Materials Testing Technicians to join their ranks. This role involves performing field inspections and observations for commercial construction and transportation-related projects. These technicians play a vital role in ensuring that construction materials and methods meet stringent quality and safety standards, directly contributing to the success of each project. Opportunities are available for both experienced technicians, particularly those with ACI and other relevant certifications, and recent graduates in Civil Engineering or Construction Management.

The Construction Materials Testing Technician will be responsible for conducting soil density testing using nuclear gauges and sand cone methods in compliance with ASTM standards and project specifications. Additionally, the technician will sample and test concrete materials on site to guarantee adherence to quality benchmarks. They will prepare detailed written field reports documenting daily activities, observations, and test results, which are critical for project documentation and regulatory compliance.

In this role, technicians will monitor proofrolls, undercut operations, footing inspections with dynamic cone penetrometers, and rebar inspections, maintaining compliance with company safety policies throughout all activities. They will engage regularly with client representatives, including supervisors, foremen, project managers, and engineers, ensuring clear communication and collaboration. Furthermore, technicians will perform analyses and calculations to verify the accuracy, applicability, and reasonableness of test data, ensuring the integrity of all reporting and inspections.

This position requires a high level of reliability, attention to detail, and strong communication skills to successfully prepare reports and interact with team members and clients. While primarily supporting commercial and transportation construction projects, the role offers exposure to a variety of testing equipment and techniques, enhancing technical capabilities and professional growth. The position may require flexibility in working hours, including outside of normal business hours, to meet project demands. Candidates must meet physical requirements such as the ability to lift and carry weights up to 50 pounds and work in varying weather conditions.

Wood offers a dynamic and supportive work environment that values professional development and safety, making it an excellent choice for technicians looking to advance their careers in construction materials testing. The company maintains rigorous standards for drug testing, physical exams, background checks, and driving records, reflecting its commitment to safety and quality. This opportunity is classified under 'other' employment type, reflecting the specific nature of the fieldwork and project-based assignments.
