The role of Construction Materials Testing Technician - Level I at Building & Earth requires a minimum of six months experience and an active ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician certification. This full-time position involves performing a range of testing and inspection tasks at various construction sites to verify compliance with project specifications and standards. The technician conducts tasks such as sample preparation, collection, and testing of construction materials, as well as detailed field observations and documentation of activities pertaining to civil infrastructure and building projects. Responsibilities include testing soil properties including compaction and classification, concrete consistency and strength, and other material quality indicators. The technician will also be responsible for operating and maintaining specialized equipment safely, including nuclear density gauges, which mandates adherence to radiation safety programs and protocols.

This role demands flexibility, as technicians must be prepared to work night shifts and weekends to align with project schedules. Reliable transportation and the ability to travel daily to multiple job sites—usually within 100 miles of the home office—are essential. Occasionally, the role may require short- or long-term travel out of town. The technician is trained to communicate effectively with project supervision teams regarding test results and any non-conformance issues, ensuring timely problem resolution and maintaining project integrity.
