Horton has made a significant impact on the housing market by focusing on delivering high-quality homes primarily for the entry-level and first-time move-up markets. Besides home construction, the company complements its offerings by providing mortgage financing and title services through its mortgage and title subsidiaries, creating a seamless homebuying experience for its customers. This nationwide homebuilder is known not only for its extensive reach but also for its commitment to quality, customer satisfaction, and community engagement. Currently, D.R. Horton is seeking a dedicated and experienced Construction Manager to join their team in Overland Park, Kansas. This full-time role encompasses managing and overseeing all field-related construction activities to ensure that projects meet the company’s cost, schedule, and quality standards. The Construction Manager will be instrumental in creating construction schedules, enforcing field policies and procedures, and maintaining safety and appearance standards across all community job sites. This position acts as a key liaison between various departments to ensure alignment in achieving division goals.
The responsibilities of the Construction Manager are broad and dynamic. The candidate will be tasked with recruiting, communicating with, and training field personnel on construction processes, safety protocols, quality expectations, and company policies. Scheduling and directing tasks across all phases of home construction will be critical, along with managing construction activities either directly or indirectly by working with Construction Area Managers, Project Managers, General Superintendents, and Superintendents. Ensuring compliance with OSHA and relevant state safety regulations is a vital aspect of the role, alongside monitoring field operations to uphold production timelines and quality control. Additionally, the Construction Manager will set build times for each plan, review architectural plans prior to initial community builds, and grant approvals for architectural modifications.
The role additionally requires proactive decision-making, such as taking immediate action to maintain a safe work environment or adjusting resources and schedules when necessary. The Construction Manager will be responsible for interfacing with external agencies, municipal bodies, public utilities, and industry associations to secure necessary permits and approvals. Regular site visits are expected to verify quality and adherence to policy, along with evaluating the performance of trade partners. The position also involves reviewing customer feedback to direct quality improvement efforts and managing departmental budgets effectively. Strong professionalism, ethical business conduct, and a commitment to increasing company goodwill and profit are foundational to this role.
Supervisory responsibilities include overseeing two or more employees, emphasizing leadership and team management skills. The ideal candidate should be capable of traveling overnight as required.
