Job Description

Barnes & Noble College is a prominent retail partner for nearly 800 colleges and universities across the United States, delivering an unparalleled retail experience dedicated to supporting academic communities. As a company that operates within the higher education environment, Barnes & Noble College provides indispensable educational content, tools, and merchandise tailored to the needs of students, faculty, administration, alumni, and other campus stakeholders. By blending a customer-centric approach with a strong focus on academic resources, Barnes & Noble College has established itself as a unique retail environment that contributes positively to campus life and learning outcomes. Their commitment to service excellence and supporting academic success makes them an exceptional place to work, especially for individuals passionate about education and retail engagement.

The role of a part-time Supervisor in the BNC Starbucks Licensee Cafe offers an exciting opportunity within this dynamic and fast-paced academic retail environment. This position requires a resourceful, driven, adaptable, and customer-focused individual who will work flexible or set schedules year-round to support daily cafe operations. As a Supervisor, you will play an integral role in assisting the management team by overseeing team members in the absence of upper management, ensuring smooth operation of the cafe. This involves delivering exceptional customer service by greeting customers warmly and building customer loyalty, while also preparing a variety of drinks and food items with precision and care. Your leadership will be central to fostering an environment where team members can develop their skills and perform efficiently, ensuring the cafe remains a welcoming and well-organized space for patrons.

The position demands a proactive and skillful leader who can drive sales, enforce loss prevention and food safety protocols, and maintain high standards of cleanliness and operation. Part-time supervisors will not only be hands-on in coaching and guiding team members but also responsible for handling customer issues professionally and promptly. Knowledge of cafe operations, product quality standards, equipment maintenance, and inventory management is critical to the success in this role. Offering approximately $18.50 per hour (Connecticut pay range) and requiring less than 30 hours per week, this part-time role caters to those seeking a balance between work and personal obligations while still making a meaningful contribution to a vibrant campus community. Benefits such as daily pay access, employee discounts, paid sick time, 401k eligibility, and commuter benefits further enhance the overall employment package. Barnes & Noble College promotes a diverse and inclusive workplace and complies with all applicable health and safety regulations, including COVID-19 protocols, ensuring a safe working environment for all employees.
