Job Description

Thomas Concrete is a well-established company that has been a leading supplier of high-quality ready-mixed concrete in the Southeast for over 70 years. As a family-owned and operated business, Thomas Concrete has built a reputation for reliability, quality, and community presence. The company is proud of its long-standing tradition of providing exceptional products and services to meet the diverse needs of its customers in construction and related industries. With a focus on sustainability and innovation, Thomas Concrete continuously strives to enhance its operations and customer satisfaction, positioning itself as a trusted partner in the ready-mix concrete market.\n\nThe role available at Thomas Concrete is for local company drivers who operate specialized trucks equipped with auxiliary concrete mixers to deliver concrete mixes to various job sites. This is a full-time local driving position with the significant benefit of being home daily, making it an ideal choice for those seeking steady work without the extended periods away from home often associated with truck driving jobs. The company offers increased pay for experienced ready-mix drivers, reflecting the value of expertise and dedication in this role. Starting pay is competitive at $22.25 per hour for entry-level drivers and increases with experience. Drivers are guaranteed a 40-hour workweek and can expect to average between 50 to 60 hours per week, with time-and-a-half compensation applying to hours worked beyond 40 each week. There is also a shift differential pay of $2 per hour for each shift worked, providing additional earning potential.\n\nIn this role, drivers are responsible for safely operating the truck to load and deliver concrete, managing the mixer, and working closely with job site personnel to ensure the concrete is poured correctly. Duties include driving the truck under loading hoppers to receive materials like sand, gravel, cement, and water, starting the mixer, maneuvering the truck to the delivery site, unloading concrete via truck chutes, and cleaning and maintaining the truck to prevent concrete from hardening inside the mixer or on other surfaces. Preventative maintenance such as spraying protective compounds and assembling cement chutes are part of the daily tasks. This position demands attention to safety, precision in delivery, and the ability to work independently during transportation and unloading. Thomas Concrete emphasizes safety and supports its drivers with quarterly safety bonuses that can earn up to $650, reflecting the company’s commitment to a safe working environment and rewarding careful driving behavior. Additional benefits include comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance that begins the first of the month after hire, a 401K plan with employer match, paid holidays including seven fixed and two floating holidays, and paid vacation time.\n\nThis opportunity is ideal for individuals with a valid Class B or Class A CDL who have at least six months of previous driving experience or have recently graduated from an accredited CDL program. Thomas Concrete values drivers with clean records and compliance with FMCSA regulations. The company’s supportive environment, comprehensive benefits, and competitive pay structure make this a compelling position for those looking to grow their career in the ready-mix concrete driving sector while maintaining a healthy work-life balance by staying local and home daily.
