Job Description

Avera McKennan Hospital is a well-established healthcare facility dedicated to providing exceptional medical services and compassionate care to its patients and communities. As part of Avera Health, an integrated health system serving the Upper Midwest, the hospital is committed to advancing health and wellness through a multidisciplinary approach. This institution fosters a supportive and inclusive work environment where employees can contribute meaningfully to the mission of moving health forward. Located in the United States, Avera McKennan Hospital operates with a strong emphasis on patient-centered care, high ethical standards, and professional development.

The available position at Avera McKennan Hospital is for a regular, full-time team member primarily working daytime shifts, with some availability required for weekends, evenings, and holidays to ensure continuous support and service. The pay range for this role is competitive, starting at $17.50 and going up to $21.50 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.

The role primarily involves being the first point of contact for patients, families, visitors, and internal customers by warmly greeting and providing helpful directions or assistance. This position is highly visible within the hospital, serving as an information resource and navigator to help patients and their families navigate the facility and services efficiently. The ideal candidate will collaborate closely with various departments to promote services within the facility and ensure that all information provided is accurate and up to date.

Additional responsibilities include technology support such as assisting with equipment needs, room scheduling, and organizing the physical setup and tear down of rooms for meetings or events. The role demands keen attention to identifying trends or recurring inquiries from customers, using these insights to recommend improvements to service delivery and hospital processes. This position helps to link patients and visitors with the resources they need while supporting the staff in maintaining a welcoming and efficient environment.

Applicants for this position must have the ability to work the designated hours effectively, possess sufficient visual acuity, and communicate clearly and effectively with others. The role requires good hearing abilities to understand speech and respond appropriately. Reasonable accommodations can be made for qualified individuals with disabilities without creating undue hardship for the employer.

Candidates should have at least a high school diploma or GED equivalent and have between one to three years of experience in healthcare, program administration, hospitality, or the customer service industry. Preferred applicants will have a bachelor's degree, but it is not mandatory. This role aligns best with individuals who are passionate about healthcare service and strive to uphold values such as compassion, hospitality, and stewardship.

Employees in this position are expected to embody and actively promote Avera's core values and standards, including treating others with respect and kindness, maintaining confidentiality, and working effectively within a team setting. Compliance with safety principles and regulations governing healthcare settings, including but not limited to CMS, The Joint Commission, DHHS, and OSHA standards, is mandatory.

Working at Avera McKennan Hospital offers a career path with growth opportunities supported by hands-on training and mentorship. Employees also benefit from a wide range of supportive services designed to help maintain a balanced and healthy lifestyle. Eligible employees have access to paid time off from day one, employer retirement matching contributions up to 5%, and other benefits that support long-term well-being and career advancement.

Avera McKennan Hospital is proud to be an equal opportunity employer that values diversity and inclusion. Qualified applicants are considered for employment without discrimination based on race, color, religion, gender, national origin, disability, veteran status, or other legally protected categories. The hospital strives to provide equitable access and reasonable accommodations for individuals with disabilities to support their successful employment and career development.
