Job Description
UPMC Mercy is a renowned healthcare institution dedicated to providing exceptional medical services and compassionate care to patients, visitors, and the community it serves. As part of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) system, UPMC Mercy is committed to advancing the health and well-being of individuals through innovative treatments, a patient-centered approach, and a supportive environment. This hospital is known for its comprehensive range of medical specialties and its mission to deliver outstanding clinical care with respect and dignity. UPMC Mercy offers a collaborative setting where healthcare professionals work together in a dynamic and supportive atmosphere to meet diverse patient needs with the highest standards of excellence.
The Full-Time Concierge position at UPMC Mercy plays a pivotal role in enhancing the patient and visitor experience at the Mercy Pavilion. This role is designed for individuals who are passionate about providing exceptional customer service in a fast-paced healthcare facility. The concierge will be responsible for welcoming patients, visitors, guests, and vendors, ensuring they receive clear directions and assistance to appropriate areas of the hospital. This position requires working shifts Monday through Friday between 5 am and 10 pm, offering flexibility while maintaining consistent support during operational hours.
The concierge contributes significantly to creating a welcoming and pleasant atmosphere within the hospital’s lobby and entrance areas. Duties include maintaining the cleanliness and presentation of these spaces, ensuring they reflect the professionalism and care that UPMC Mercy embodies. The role also involves coordinating with volunteers and support departments to meet the needs of all customers efficiently. Positive interpersonal skills such as professionalism, integrity, and respect are essential, as is the ability to adapt and support change within a healthcare environment.
Furthermore, the concierge is expected to demonstrate technical skills and knowledge relevant to the position, applying focused specialty expertise to address various situational requirements. Proactive greeting of patients and customers, understanding their visit purpose, and responding to their needs promptly helps in managing patient flow and reducing wait times. The ability to communicate effectively, solve problems innovatively, and work collaboratively as part of a team underscores this role’s importance in promoting patient safety and satisfaction.
Candidates for this position should be comfortable using computer systems to access patient information and possess a service-oriented mindset that values customer experience highly. Prior experience in a hospital or medical environment and familiarity with medical terminology are advantageous. The position also requires meeting specific licensing and clearance requirements, including Act 34 certification, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
Overall, joining UPMC Mercy as a Full-Time Concierge is an opportunity to be part of a respected healthcare organization where your contributions directly impact the quality of service and care provided to patients and visitors. This role offers personal growth, meaningful interaction, and the satisfaction of supporting a vital aspect of hospital operations—the welcoming and guiding of those who entrust their health and well-being to the UPMC Mercy staff.
