Job Description
The American Cancer Society, headquartered in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, is a nationwide, community-based voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem. Founded with the goal of ending cancer in all its forms, the Society combines research, education, advocacy, and patient services to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those affected by cancer. Through the work of its 1.3 million volunteers and employees, the American Cancer Society raises awareness, supports patients and their families, and funds innovative cancer research initiatives to improve outcomes and save lives. The organization prides itself on a culture that values diversity and inclusive excellence, fostering a welcoming environment for both its community and workforce. This commitment ensures that the Society remains responsive and effective in serving the diverse needs of communities across the U.S.
The Concierge position at the American Cancer Society serves as a vital frontline role within the organization, acting as the first point of contact for visitors and guests at their facility. This part-time role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the Society's mission by ensuring that the environment is welcoming, safe, and supportive for all who enter. Operating primarily during weekend evening hours from 3:30 pm to midnight on Saturdays and Sundays, this position is essential for managing front desk operations which include guest check-ins and check-outs, responding to inquiries and concerns, and coordinating various services such as transportation scheduling and security monitoring.
As a Concierge, you will be responsible for creating a positive and professional first impression for guests, helping to maintain a hospitable atmosphere that reflects the American Cancer Society’s dedication to care and community support. Your role will involve providing detailed information about the lodge amenities and available community resources, ensuring that guests feel well-informed and supported during their visit. Handling guest requests and emergency situations promptly and efficiently is a key component of the job, demanding strong problem-solving skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
Moreover, organization and accuracy are crucial in this role as you will maintain precise guest records and ensure a tidy, efficient front desk area. Safety is also a priority; you will monitor lobby security and help implement protocols designed to keep guests and staff safe. Given the nature of the position, some physical demands such as standing for long periods, walking, and occasionally assisting with luggage or packages are part of the daily work.
With a competitive hourly rate of $19.50, this role is well suited for individuals interested in customer service within a mission-driven non-profit environment. It is ideal for candidates with at least one year of customer service experience, preferably in hospitality or related fields, who possess strong communication skills and a passion for helping others. Additional training or education in hospitality management or customer service can be advantageous but is not required.
The American Cancer Society values flexibility and independence in this role as the Concierge must be able to multitask and work autonomously during the assigned shifts. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and multi-line phone systems is also important for effective communication and operational support. This position offers minimal travel requirements and opportunities to develop skills relevant to customer service, safety management, and guest relations within a respected organization dedicated to a vital cause.
Joining the American Cancer Society means becoming part of an organization that offers more than just a job. It is a career opportunity to contribute meaningfully to cancer control and support initiatives while gaining valuable experience in a dynamic, inclusive workplace. The Society provides comprehensive benefits including paid time off, medical and dental coverage, retirement plans, wellness programs, and ongoing professional development designed to enhance employee skills and career growth. The organization is an equal opportunity employer committed to fostering diversity and inclusion at all levels of employment.
