Job Description
The American Cancer Society (ACS) is a nationwide, community-based voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem. With over 1.3 million volunteers and countless employees, ACS works tirelessly to support cancer patients and those affected by cancer through research funding, education, advocacy, and patient services. The organization embraces a culture rich in diversity, drawing from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences to better serve its communities with personalized and compassionate care. ACS is not just an employer but a mission-driven establishment where employees unite with a shared goal to end cancer as we know it. This commitment fosters a rewarding and meaningful work environment where individuals can significantly impact lives and contribute to lifesaving initiatives.
The Concierge at the American Cancer Society serves as a critical frontline ambassador and the first point of contact for guests entering ACS facilities. This Limited - Part-Time Concierge position primarily supports weekend operations, with scheduled hours mostly between 7:00 AM and 3:00 PM on Saturdays and Sundays, with a total schedule of fewer than 20 weekly hours. The hourly pay rate for this role is $19.54. Although this position is part-time and does not include eligibility for benefits, it offers a valuable opportunity for individuals seeking rewarding work linked directly to the organization’s mission. Job duties involve managing all front desk operations, greeting and assisting guests warmly, and ensuring a safe, secure, and supportive environment. This role is entrusted with check-in and check-out procedures, providing comprehensive information about lodge amenities and community resources, and coordinating transportation and special program schedules such as the EMPOWER Program. Additionally, the Concierge responds professionally to guest inquiries, handles concerns and emergencies, maintains organized and accurate guest records, and monitors lobby security adhering to safety protocols. Flexibility to work additional shifts during weekdays or outside standard hours is particularly beneficial.
Working as a Concierge in the American Cancer Society requires excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Staff in this role must be adept at multitasking independently within a dynamic and fast-paced environment, delivering superior customer service while managing logistical aspects of the front desk. The position demands some physical endurance including standing or walking for extended periods, and occasionally assisting guests with luggage or other manual tasks. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and multi-line phone systems is necessary for efficient administrative support. While minimal travel is required, the role emphasizes providing exceptional visitor experiences with compassion and professionalism. Overall, this part-time role offers a meaningful way to join a globally recognized nonprofit organization dedicated to cancer control while developing valuable hospitality and administrative skills in a mission-focused setting.
