Job Description

The American Cancer Society is a nationwide community-based voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem. With over 1.3 million volunteers and a passionate staff, the Society tirelessly works to advance cancer research, provide education and support services, and promote health and wellness to reduce cancer risk. As a leader in the fight against cancer, the American Cancer Society has cultivated a culture of diversity and inclusion, drawing from varied backgrounds and experiences to better serve all communities across the United States. This commitment to service excellence is reflected in every aspect of the organization, from advocacy and fundraising to patient support and research funding.

The Concierge role at the American Cancer Society is a vital frontline position serving as the first point of contact for guests visiting the Society’s facilities. Working Thursday through Saturday from 3 pm to 11 pm with a starting pay of $19.50 per hour, this role demands professionalism and a warm, welcoming demeanor. The Concierge manages front desk operations by handling guest check-ins and check-outs, responding to inquiries about facilities and community resources, and coordinating transportation and specific program services, such as the EMPOWER Program.

This position is integral to creating a safe, supportive, and efficient environment for all guests. In addition to administrative duties, the Concierge monitors lobby security and ensures safety protocols are followed closely. The role requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills, the ability to multitask, and proficiency with Microsoft Office and multi-line phone systems. The American Cancer Society values individuals who demonstrate strong customer service and problem-solving skills and can work independently while maintaining teamwork among colleagues.

Physical demands include extended periods of standing and walking, occasional lifting and moving of items like luggage and packages, and endurance to manage the fast pace of the front desk environment. Although minimal travel is required, flexibility to work evenings and weekends is essential. The organization offers a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, retirement, wellness, and professional development programs, fostering a supportive work environment.

By joining the American Cancer Society as a Concierge, employees contribute directly to a mission that transcends traditional hospitality duties. They help ensure every guest, whether a cancer patient, caregiver, volunteer, or supporter, experiences compassionate service and feels respected and valued. This position offers individuals the chance to be part of a meaningful cause, build valuable skills, and work in a dynamic environment where their efforts make a real difference in people’s lives.
