Job Description

The American Cancer Society is a nationwide community-based voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem. Founded over a century ago, the organization operates through the efforts of 1.3 million volunteers and staff who are committed to saving lives, celebrating lives, and leading the fight for a world free from cancer. The ACS is known for its comprehensive programs, research initiatives, and educational outreach designed to support patients, caregivers, and communities across the United States. Its mission is far-reaching and impactful, touching millions of lives through services, advocacy, and research funding. The organization fosters a culture built on diversity, equity, and inclusion, drawing talent from diverse backgrounds to effectively address varied community needs.

The role of Concierge at the American Cancer Society, based in Burlington, Vermont, is a vital part-time position within this mission-driven organization. This position serves as the initial point of contact for guests, offering a welcoming, safe, and supportive environment at ACS facilities. Working primarily on weekends with a schedule from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at a rate of $18.59 per hour plus a 15% shift differential for weekend hours, this role is integral to ensuring a positive guest experience. The Concierge is responsible for managing front desk operations such as greeting guests, handling check-in and check-out procedures, and providing information about lodge amenities and community resources. Additionally, this individual coordinates transportation and EMPOWER program services, addresses guest inquiries and emergencies, maintains front desk organization with accurate records, and oversees lobby security by implementing safety protocols.

This position calls for strong communication and interpersonal skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office and multi-line phone systems, and the ability to multitask and work independently. Candidates should be flexible with working hours, including evenings and weekends, and possess excellent customer service and problem-solving abilities. Minimal travel is required for this role. Physically, the job entails extended periods of standing and walking and may include manual tasks such as lifting luggage or packages and providing physical assistance to guests. The ACS values its employees by providing a generous paid time off policy, comprehensive medical, dental, and retirement benefits, wellness programs, and professional development opportunities aimed at enhancing staff skills and career growth. Supported by a commitment to equal employment opportunity, this role offers a chance to make a meaningful difference within a compassionate and dynamic organization focused on ending cancer.
