Job Description
The American Cancer Society is a nationwide, community-based voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem. Established over a century ago, this nonprofit organization has been at the forefront of cancer research, education, advocacy, and patient services. Leveraging the efforts of 1.3 million volunteers alongside staff members, the American Cancer Society works tirelessly to support cancer patients and their families, enhance cancer prevention awareness, and promote early detection and treatment efforts. The diversity of its workforce and volunteer base is a vital part of its success, enabling the organization to serve various communities with sensitivity and cultural competence.
Located in Decatur, Georgia, the American Cancer Society is seeking a full-time Concierge-Driver to join the team at Hope Lodge, one of its signature patient hospitality houses. Hope Lodge provides a supportive environment where cancer patients and their caregivers can stay at no cost while traveling for treatment. The Concierge-Driver role is an essential position that combines guest services with operating transportation for lodge guests. This position offers a meaningful opportunity to directly impact the lives of cancer patients by ensuring their transportation to medical appointments and other vital services is safe, timely, and welcoming. The hourly pay is set at $19.50, with the American Cancer Society considering the candidate’s relevant experience and skills to adjust the final compensation accordingly.
The Concierge-Driver acts as the face of Hope Lodge, greeting guests warmly, managing check-in and check-out procedures, and providing information about the lodge’s amenities and local community resources. A key part of this role is driving lodge vehicles safely and courteously, maintaining strict adherence to transportation schedules to ensure guests arrive on time to their medical appointments. Candidates should expect to conduct daily vehicle inspections, keep vehicles clean and in ready condition, and report any needed maintenance. The role requires continuous communication with guests and their caregivers to respond promptly to requests, concerns, and any emergencies that may arise during transportation or while at the lodge.
Additionally, the Concierge-Driver supports front desk operations, managing phone calls, emails, and lobby security when needed. Since this role involves frequent local travel within an approved service area, the ability to navigate efficiently and maintain punctual schedules is critical. The job also requires assisting guests with mobility challenges and luggage to ensure a safe and comfortable experience. The physical demands include standing and walking for extended periods, occasional lifting of luggage, and the stamina needed to handle a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment.
The American Cancer Society offers comprehensive benefits including a generous paid time off policy, medical and dental insurance, retirement plans, wellness programs, and opportunities for professional development. As an equal opportunity employer, the organization values diversity and is committed to providing an inclusive workplace where employees are empowered to thrive while making a tangible difference in the fight against cancer. The Concierge-Driver position at Hope Lodge is ideal for individuals who are compassionate, dependable, and proactive about supporting patients and their families through one of their most challenging journeys.
