The Concierge position at Clara Maass Medical Center plays a vital role within the Concierge Department, operating under the direct supervision of the Manager. This hourly, per diem role is scheduled primarily for day shifts and offers a competitive pay rate of $21.70 per hour. The Concierge is responsible for managing the main lobby and SDS/Endoscopy waiting areas by providing immediate assistance to patients and visitors. This includes addressing inquiries, resolving minor complaints swiftly, and serving as a welcoming ambassador who enhances the patient and visitor experience through friendly and professional interactions. The role emphasizes active communication skills and the ability to assess specific needs based on age or special requirements, ensuring personalized and compassionate service. A Concierge must work effectively during busy times and emergencies while maintaining a calm demeanor and prioritizing safety and confidentiality.

Additional responsibilities include escorting patients and visitors within the facility or to vehicles, assisting with wheelchairs when needed, answering phone calls promptly, and providing clear and accurate information regarding hospital operations such as hours and directions. The Concierge is also tasked with maintaining a neat and orderly environment in the main lobby, coordinating with Environmental Services when necessary, and adhering to infection control and safety guidelines. This role requires flexibility, as it involves per diem scheduling with the need to work weekends and holidays based on departmental needs. The position seeks candidates with a high school diploma, with preference given to those holding a college degree or possessing healthcare-related experience or training. Job Duties

  • Acts as an ambassador for the main lobby and SDS/endoscopy area by providing special assistance and information to patients and visitors
  • Assess each patient and visitor's age-specific needs and provide age-specific assistance, treatment, and care
  • Oversees the main lobby and SDS waiting area and promptly resolves patient and visitor requests, issues, or complaints
  • Escort and assist patients and visitors to their desired location or car, if needed
  • Offers assistance with a wheelchair, as needed
  • Promptly answer telephone calls
  • Use a clear, understandable speaking voice, exercise judgment, respond to inquiries with accurate information regarding hours of operation, directions, etc. according to individual needs
  • Promptly resolve minor issues and inform the patient advocates/representatives of any significant patient and visitor complaints
  • Remain calm and alert, especially during emergency situations and heavy patient and visitor volume
  • Using the telephone, verbally arrange and confirm individual needs both inside and outside the facility
  • Promptly respond to requests for doctors, transportation arrangements, etc.
  • Follow proper safety and infection control procedures and maintain a safe work environment
  • Frequently converse with patients and visitors as they wait in the lobby
  • Greet and direct patients and visitors immediately with a friendly and sincere welcome
  • Maintain a neat and organized environment in the lobby
  • Notify Environmental Services when excessive spills or litter require their attention
  • Maintain a neat, organized, and stocked work area
  • Maintain confidentiality of the patient's condition and other personal information, and limit work/patient-related discussions to private areas
