Job Description
Brigham Young University (BYU) stands as the flagship higher education institution of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, widely recognized for combining world-class education with a profound spiritual environment. Rooted deeply in the Gospel of Jesus Christ, BYU thrives to be among the exceptional universities globally, emphasizing not only academic excellence but also the personal and spiritual growth of its community members. The university is located on a beautiful and historic campus that fosters a unique culture of belonging, weekly devotionals, and numerous opportunities for learning and growth. Employees at BYU are encouraged to immerse themselves in a community that values diverse experiences, perspectives, and talents while contributing to the institution’s sacred mission. The university strongly prefers to hire faithful members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints who hold and are worthy to hold a current temple recommend, aligning their professional contributions with their personal religious commitments.
The role available is that of a concessions worker, a dynamic and fast-paced position essential during BYU’s stadium events. This is an event-based, flexible employment opportunity ideal for individuals eager to engage with a lively crowd while providing exemplary customer service. The position is seasonal, particularly busy from September through May, with lighter hours available during the summer months. The job comes with a competitive starting pay of $12.00 per hour plus an additional $2.00 per hour in Dining Meal Credits, reflecting the university’s commitment to offering fair compensation for service roles. This role requires availability for all home football games from September to November 2026 and the high-profile Stadium of Fire event on July 4th; these dates are non-negotiable, highlighting the importance of reliability in this position.
As a concessions worker, your primary focus will be to serve customers briskly and kindly amid the exciting, bustling atmosphere of LaVell Edwards Stadium. Handling card transactions with precision, restocking products, and maintaining your service station's cleanliness and readiness are integral to the role. You will work closely with your stand lead to ensure smooth operations and effective communication throughout event shifts. Variety characterizes the daily tasks as you will also be involved in smaller events including volleyball, basketball, and soccer, each bringing its own set of dynamics and energy. The successful candidate is expected to demonstrate an energetic, positive attitude and the capacity to work quickly and efficiently under pressure. Obtaining a Food Handler's permit within the first week of employment is a mandatory requirement, demonstrating the university’s commitment to health and safety standards in food service.
Working at BYU not only offers the chance to gain valuable experience in customer service, event operations, and teamwork but also the opportunity to be a part of a vibrant university community that prioritizes faith, excellence, and mutual respect. Employees benefit from extensive support resources including an employee assistance program accessible to both the employee and their household members, access to the university library, complimentary on-campus parking, free local transit passes, and discounts at the BYU Store and for various campus events, enhancing their overall work-life balance and connection to the campus culture. This role is perfect for individuals seeking a meaningful, energetic, and service-oriented position within a respected institution dedicated to fostering personal growth and community engagement.
