The role of Concessions Worker at the San Diego Civic Theater offers an exciting part-time, on-call opportunity for individuals passionate about food service in a fast-paced, event-driven environment. This position requires flexibility with varying shifts and open availability to support the dynamic scheduling needs typical of event-based venues. The hourly pay rate is $19.50, reflecting the value placed on quality service and efficiency. As a Concessions Worker, you will be essential in supporting high-volume concessions operations by preparing, stocking, and serving food and drink products at multiple concession locations within the theater. The position involves working in various settings, including permanent stands, portable or mobile kiosks, and autonomous retail stores. The service styles may range from grab-and-go options to made-to-order or pre-packaged items, demanding adaptability and attention to detail.

Key responsibilities include ensuring concession stands are well-stocked and service-ready, delivering speedy and courteous service during live events, and maintaining cleanliness and safety standards. Operators of basic food service equipment such as fryers, grills, warmers, and beverage dispensers, Concessions Workers must also assist with the setup and breakdown of concession areas. Physical stamina is important as the job requires frequent lifting of goods up to 35 pounds, with occasional requirements to handle up to 40 pounds. Timeliness and regular attendance are critical, as the role demands showing up reliably for scheduled shifts. Beyond standard duties, workers may undertake other responsibilities depending on the specific event, venue requirements, and business needs.

Candidates for this role should ideally have a high school diploma or equivalent experience and prior experience in concessions, food service, or customer service. Compliance with local alcohol-serving laws is mandatory, with certifications such as TIPS or TEAM required to serve alcohol responsibly. Depending on state or local regulations, holding a Food Handler certification may also be necessary. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience preferred
  • Prior concessions, food service, or customer service experience preferred
  • Must meet minimum age requirements to serve alcohol based on local and state regulations
  • Must maintain a valid TIPS (Training for Intervention Procedures), TEAM (Techniques for Effective Alcohol Management), or equivalent alcohol-service certification, and comply with all state-specific alcohol training requirements
  • A Food Handler certification may be required based on state or local regulations

Job Duties

  • Prepare, assemble, and serve concession food and beverage items according to established recipes, portion standards, and concessions procedures
  • Assist with opening and closing concession locations, including setup, breakdown, and cleanup
  • Operate basic food service equipment such as warmers, grills, fryers, or beverage dispensers as assigned
  • Ability to frequently lift and move up to 35 pounds and occasionally lift and move up to 40 pounds
  • Attend work and show for scheduled shifts on time with satisfactory regularity
  • Other duties may be assigned and can differ among accounts, depending on business necessities and client requirements
