Job Description

The Cleveland Orchestra is one of the world’s leading orchestras, known for its artistic excellence and innovation in the music world. Based in Cleveland, Ohio, this prestigious institution performs at iconic venues such as Severance Hall and Blossom Music Center. The orchestra is dedicated not only to delivering memorable concert experiences but also to providing dedicated support to its guest artists and conductors. The organization's commitment to excellence extends beyond the stage and into every facet of its operations, including the vital support roles that ensure smooth and efficient performances. The Cleveland Orchestra offers a unique work environment that combines the charm and culture of a historic music organization with the energy and demands of a world-class performance institution.

We are currently seeking a Concert Assistant & Driver to join our team and offer essential backstage support and driving services for guest artists and conductors during performances. This role is vital for ensuring the comfort, convenience, and preparedness of our distinguished guests, allowing the artists and conductors to focus solely on delivering exceptional performances. The work schedule for this position is variable and depends largely on the orchestra's performance calendar. During non-performance weeks, the hours may range from zero to fifteen hours per week, while performance weeks require a commitment of 15 to 40 hours. The position guarantees a minimum of two hours per assignment even if there are gaps throughout the day. This flexibility requires candidates who are adaptable and able to manage an inconsistent schedule effectively.

As a Concert Assistant & Driver, you will serve in a dual capacity. You will be responsible for backstage assistance, including preparing dressing rooms, liaising with artists and the Artistic Department to anticipate needs, and facilitating smooth operations during rehearsals and concerts. Additionally, you will provide transportation services, ensuring punctual, safe, and comfortable travel for guest conductors, artists, and special guests to various destinations including concerts, rehearsals, airport transfers, and appointments. Exceptional customer service skills are essential in this role, as you will be the primary point of contact between the orchestra's guests and staff. This position offers a competitive wage of $22 per hour and the rare opportunity to work closely with a world-class musical institution, contributing to the success of premiere performances in two of the finest music venues in the country.
