Job Description
The Family & Community Services Department is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for individuals and families by providing diverse recreational and educational programs within the community. As a vital part of this department, the assigned community centers serve as hubs where residents can engage in enriching activities designed to promote wellness, social connection, and lifelong learning. These community centers offer a wide range of recreational opportunities, educational workshops, field trips, and special events aimed at fostering a strong community spirit and improving overall wellbeing for all age groups. The Family & Community Services Department is committed to supporting a thriving community by promoting accessibility, inclusion, and excellence in programming across its centers throughout the region.
The role of overseeing and coordinating recreational or educational activities at these community centers is critical to achieving the department's mission. This position is responsible for implementing program goals and objectives while performing a variety of administrative tasks in support of the assigned area of responsibility. The individual in this role will manage multiple aspects of the centers’ operations, including scheduling, program development, community liaison work, and event coordination, ensuring that all activities align with established policies and provide meaningful experiences for participants. Additionally, the role includes responsibility for preparing marketing materials, maintaining records, monitoring program performance, and managing budgetary expenditures. This position also functions under a safety-sensitive designation with random drug and alcohol testing required, underlining the importance of integrity and professionalism in fulfilling the responsibilities.
The ideal candidate will be equipped to oversee the day-to-day and long-term planning of recreational activities, field trips, facility rentals, and public events. By developing and maintaining an activity calendar, coordinating transportation for offsite events, and organizing special community-wide celebrations, the coordinator will play a key role in promoting community engagement. Interaction with community agencies and organizations is essential to foster collaboration and enhance program development. Furthermore, the job calls for a dynamic individual who can adapt programing by conducting participant surveys, interpreting feedback, and integrating new developments in community recreation. This hands-on position requires someone capable of physical activity to ensure proper facility maintenance and assist with event logistics.
Being a community-centric role, excellent communication skills are essential for outreach and coordination efforts, as well as for providing exceptional customer service to program participants and facility users. The position demands a blend of administrative skills, creativity, and a proactive approach to ensure the success and continuous improvement of community programs. Candidates will find working in a vibrant, purpose-driven environment that offers opportunities to make a tangible difference in residents’ lives. This full-time opportunity is integral to supporting the department’s commitment to fostering healthier and more connected communities through high-quality recreation and educational services.
