Job Description

CenterPoint Energy YMCA is a community-focused organization dedicated to strengthening neighborhoods through supportive programs and services that promote health, well-being, and social connection. Located in the heart of the Glenwood Neighborhood, this YMCA branch operates under the larger YMCA of Southwestern Indiana, Inc., which is renowned for its commitment to fostering environments where individuals and families can thrive. The YMCA's mission revolves around inclusivity, community strengthening, and nurturing personal growth, which is reflected in every program they offer. This establishment is well-known for its robust community engagement and programs designed for youth, adults, and seniors alike, focusing on holistic wellness and development.

The role of the Kitchen Manager at CenterPoint Energy YMCA is a vital and dynamic position that plays an essential part in serving the Glenwood community. Reporting to the CenterPoint Energy YMCA Director and the Grant Compliance Coordinator, the Kitchen Manager will be responsible for managing and executing a comprehensive food service program. This position’s key function includes providing nutritious meals and supplemental nourishment to youth and other participants involved in the CenterPoint Energy YMCA programs. In addition to preparing daily meals, the Kitchen Manager will oversee the supervision of assistant kitchen staff, ensure proper procurement of food supplies, and uphold compliance with the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) regulations and health department standards. A significant part of this role is the maintenance of safety, cleanliness, and compliance standards within the kitchen and all food handling processes.

The Kitchen Manager will also spearhead nutrition education initiatives aimed at increasing access and consumption of fruits and vegetables among community members, providing valuable knowledge and skills in healthy meal preparation to both youth and adults. The position requires effective collaboration with community partners, including Nourish, to help facilitate the delivery of fresh produce to families and foster broader access to food resources. The role is integral not just in food preparation but also in promoting educational and community sustainability components, which involve creating budgets, managing inventories, and scaling food distribution programs to meet growing community needs.

The position is part-time, requiring a commitment of approximately 25 to 28 hours per week, including availability during evenings and weekends. The Kitchen Manager is expected to uphold the YMCA’s core values of caring, honesty, respect, responsibility, and faith at all times. This ensures the food program not only meets the nutritional demands of the community but also contributes positively to the overall mission of the YMCA. Successful candidates will have a strong background in industrial kitchen operations, ServSafe certification, and a thorough understanding of CACFP standards. This role offers an opportunity to make a meaningful impact through community-centered food service and educational outreach, combining passion for nutrition, community welfare, and organizational excellence.
