Job Description
Many Mansions is a mission-driven non-profit organization dedicated to addressing the housing crisis by providing affordable, quality, and service-enriched rental housing primarily for formerly homeless individuals and those with very low incomes. Operating within Ventura and Los Angeles Counties, Many Mansions works tirelessly to ensure that everyone has a safe and stable place to call home. The organization is currently undergoing an ambitious expansion, aiming to double the number of affordable apartment homes available over the next five years, thereby increasing its staffing needs across both counties.
As a community-centered organization, Many Mansions embraces diversity and inclusion, encouraging individuals from all backgrounds, including people with disabilities and those who have experienced housing insecurity, to apply for positions. Joining Many Mansions offers a unique opportunity to be part of an innovative team that is passionate about making a positive impact on the community and helping to solve one of society’s most pressing problems: affordable housing.
The role of Community Manager at Many Mansions is a vital leadership position responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the property. This includes managing a veteran-focused community, ensuring the property remains safe, well-maintained, and professionally managed. The Community Manager plays a critical role in implementing organizational policies, procedures, and programs, while also guaranteeing compliance with all federal, state, and local regulatory requirements tied to affordable housing.
This position is live-in, meaning the Community Manager will reside on-site in a provided two-bedroom apartment as part of the compensation package. Such arrangements allow the manager to be closely engaged with the community needs while facilitating prompt responses to any issues that arise. Communication skills are paramount, as the manager must effectively interact with staff, residents, community partners, and external stakeholders. Spanish language proficiency is a plus but not mandatory.
Key responsibilities encompass ensuring compliance with fair housing laws and equal opportunity policies, managing tenant relations, and overseeing the financial aspects of the property, including budgeting and rent scheduling. The Community Manager works closely with maintenance teams, coordinating repairs and managing vendor relationships to maintain the quality and safety of the housing community. Given the nature of the role, the ability to work independently with initiative, creativity, and sound leadership skills is essential.
Candidates should have a minimum of two years’ experience in property management, preferably within low-income or affordable housing sectors. Experience working with veterans or military families is strongly preferred due to the veteran-focused nature of this community. Familiarity with affordable housing programs such as Section 8, Section 42, MHP, and AHP is advantageous, as is holding nationally accredited certifications like ARM, CPM, CAM, CAPS, or SCHAM.
The Community Manager will also need basic computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office, social media platforms, and property management software such as Yardi or iCam. A valid California driver’s license and insurance are required due to the driving responsibilities associated with this position.
Working in this role involves managing a moderate to high stress environment characterized by frequent interruptions, time constraints, and the need for effective problem-solving amidst emotional demands. Flexibility to work nights and weekends when necessary is required to meet community needs. Those who thrive in a friendly, goal-oriented corporate culture and are committed to upholding the values of equity and inclusion will find this role rewarding.
By joining Many Mansions as a Community Manager, candidates become essential contributors to a vital social mission, working daily to improve the lives of vulnerable populations through quality housing and supportive services.
