Job Description

The American Heart Association is a trusted and pioneering non-profit organization dedicated to combating cardiovascular diseases and promoting heart health since 1924. With a rich history of reducing cardiovascular disease deaths by half and ongoing commitment to improve community heart health, the Association stands at the forefront of health advocacy, education, and scientific research. It works tirelessly to drive impactful changes in public health policies, environments, and systems that foster healthier communities nationwide. As a leading organization in cardiovascular and brain health, the American Heart Association strives to ensure that breakthroughs in science and healthcare reach all populations regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, or physical abilities. The Kansas City market is home to the Community Impact Director role, a full-time position that is integral in advancing these efforts locally.

The Community Impact Director position focuses on strengthening and expanding the American Heart Association's influence within the Kansas City region. This role is designed for an individual passionate about public health who thrives on collaboration and community engagement. As a bridge between the Association and various stakeholders—including businesses, healthcare providers, community organizations, and government agencies—the Community Impact Director develops strategic partnerships that support cardiovascular health initiatives and promote policies conducive to heart health. The responsibilities span recruitment and management of volunteers, especially in diverse and faith-based communities, driving policy, systems, and environmental changes like tobacco-free initiatives and improved access to healthy food options.

This position involves the management and evaluation of community outreach programs, ensuring their effectiveness through performance metrics and data-driven improvements. Additionally, the Director acts as a subject matter expert and spokesperson, orchestrating public health education and awareness campaigns that resonate with the community and inspire collective action against heart disease and stroke. The role requires a dynamic self-starter with exceptional relationship-building skills, who can influence stakeholders without direct authority and motivate volunteers at all levels, including C-suite executives. The American Heart Association supports its employees through resources such as Heart U, an online corporate university, as well as local training and development opportunities.

In terms of work-life balance, the Association emphasizes the importance of Harmonization between personal and professional life. Employees benefit from a minimum of 16 days of paid time off annually, plus 12 paid holidays, and access to a broad array of medical, dental, vision, disability, and life insurance plans. The organization actively invests in its employees’ professional growth and well-being through tuition assistance, wellness programs, employee assistance programs, and telemedicine services. This nurturing and inclusive culture ensures that each team member feels seen, heard, and valued while contributing meaningfully to the American Heart Association’s mission to create healthier communities nationwide. Join the American Heart Association to become a relentless force for a world of longer, healthier lives, especially where disparities exist, and help make a significant impact in the Kansas City community as a Community Impact Director.
