Job Description
Georgia College & State University (GCSU) is a prominent public liberal arts university located in downtown Milledgeville, Georgia. Recognized as the state’s designated liberal arts university, GCSU has built a reputation for academic excellence, offering over 40 undergraduate majors and 30 graduate programs, including doctorates in education and nursing. It is one of only three selective institutions within the University System of Georgia and is consistently ranked among the top public universities in the Southeast by reputable organizations such as US News & World Report and The Princeton Review. The university prides itself on a personalized educational approach within a residential setting, fostering leadership, problem-solving, and lifelong learning through award-winning, high-impact educational practices.\n\nMilledgeville, a scenic college town with rich cultural history, including ties to noted American author Flannery O’Connor, offers a vibrant environment for students, faculty, and staff, with access to both cultural activities and beautiful natural settings, such as Lake Sinclair and Lake Oconee. GCSU combines the academic experience of a private liberal arts college with the affordability typical of a public university, emphasizing student engagement, experiential learning, and community involvement.\n\nThe Community Engagement Program Coordinator at GCSU plays a pivotal role in advancing the university's commitment to fostering student involvement in service, civic engagement, and meaningful campus-community partnerships. Reporting to the Director of Community Engagement and Belonging, this full-time, regular position is responsible for coordinating volunteer programs, supporting student and alumni engagement, and managing technology platforms pertinent to volunteer and student organization management. The coordinator will work closely with student engagement teams to promote service-related programs and registered student organizations through effective marketing and social media strategies.\n\nThis role emphasizes creating and implementing high-impact events and workshops that cultivate student connections to the campus and wider community, thereby promoting retention, belonging, and student success. Responsibilities include managing event logistics such as budgeting, staffing, marketing, and post-event evaluations, as well as collaborating with various campus departments, student groups, and community partners to broaden the reach and impact of engagement activities. The coordinator also provides administrative support, supervises student staff, and assists in advising student service organizations. Utilizing data analytics to assess program effectiveness and inform strategic outreach efforts to under-engaged populations is an integral aspect of the role.\n\nAdditionally, the coordinator will contribute to broader campus engagement initiatives by developing comprehensive marketing plans, working with alumni relations to support joint activities, and representing the department at various campus and community events. This position requires a bachelor’s degree, prior experience with student leadership or volunteer coordination, and skills in technology management, social media, and graphic design. The salary range for this pay grade 7 position is from $40,729 to $59,068, commensurate with experience.
