Job Description

The Louisiana Association for the Blind (L.A.B.) is a dedicated nonprofit organization committed to empowering individuals who are blind or visually impaired by providing employment opportunities, training, and advocacy services. Established with the mission to enhance the quality of life and independence for this community, L.A.B. plays a critical role in creating avenues that foster inclusivity and support. Through a variety of programs and services, the organization works tirelessly to connect individuals to meaningful employment and necessary resources, while also advancing public awareness on issues affecting the visually impaired. L.A.B. is well-regarded for its community-centric approach and its ongoing efforts to build partnerships that enrich its mission and impact.

The Community Engagement and Events Specialist position at L.A.B. is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic professional skilled in event management, marketing, and community relations. This specialist will be responsible for planning and executing diverse events and community initiatives that elevate L.A.B.’s visibility, foster meaningful partnerships, and enhance fundraising efforts essential to supporting the organization’s mission. The role encompasses full life-cycle event management, from initial planning through execution and evaluation, ensuring that all events reflect the organization’s goals and values.

In addition to event management, the specialist will spearhead community engagement strategies, acting as an ambassador for L.A.B. at various gatherings, business functions, and networking events. This role will build and nurture relationships with community members, donors, corporate allies, and other nonprofits, facilitating collaboration and strengthening the organization’s presence in the broader community. Volunteer recruitment, engagement, and recognition programs will also be a key part of responsibilities, helping to expand L.A.B.’s network of supporters and contributors.

Marketing and communications form another vital component of this role. Collaborating closely with the Vice President of Development and Marketing, the specialist will develop and implement impactful promotional campaigns to raise awareness of L.A.B.’s mission, services, and upcoming events. Social media oversight is included, encompassing popular platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, X, TikTok, and YouTube. The role also involves creating engaging marketing materials, including newsletters, press releases, digital campaigns, and event invitations, ensuring consistent and accessible branding across all outreach.

On the administrative side, the specialist will manage event budgets and expenses, oversee reporting to internal stakeholders, and support the Development and Marketing team with various projects and initiatives. This position demands excellent organizational prowess and the ability to juggle multiple priorities, as well as flexibility in working hours to accommodate events taking place during evenings or weekends. Possessing a valid driver’s license, good driving record, and proof of auto insurance is necessary due to the requirement for possible travel to events and community locations.

This role is suited for a candidate with a bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Business Administration, or a related field, complemented by three to five years of relevant experience in event planning, marketing, community relations, or nonprofit development. Candidates should demonstrate strong communication skills, proficiency in essential software and CRM platforms, and ideally some experience in graphic design or marketing software.
