Job Description

The Salvation Army Minneapolis Parkview Corps is a vital community-focused branch of The Salvation Army, an international evangelical movement committed to meeting human needs and preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ without discrimination. Located at 2024 Lyndale Ave N, Minneapolis, MN, this establishment strongly advocates for holistic, person-centered services that support individuals and families in need. Its comprehensive offerings include spiritual support through worship services and pastoral care, along with practical assistance like short and long-term case management, food and clothing distribution, utility and rent assistance, housing support, and connections to other community partners. The Minneapolis Parkview Corps embodies The Salvation Army’s mission by addressing both spiritual and physical needs, playing a critical role in nurturing and strengthening the North Minneapolis community and beyond.

The role of Community Center Coordinator at The Salvation Army Minneapolis Parkview Corps is a dynamic and mission-driven position aimed at fostering engagement and providing valuable recreational and social opportunities to the community. This full-time role offers an annual salary ranging from $47,000 to $48,000 and involves a variety of essential responsibilities that blend organizational skills with community outreach. The coordinator is primarily tasked with developing, implementing, and marketing recreational programs such as sports leagues, tournaments, summer day camps, and the Salvation Army Outdoors program to enrich the lives of local residents.

In addition to program oversight, this position requires managing the community center’s day-to-day usage by both internal and external groups, including scheduling, equipment access, and ensuring the proper setup and teardown of facilities. The coordinator will also assume the role of on-site supervisor in the absence of management, overseeing rental groups and volunteers and ensuring smooth operations during these periods. Administrative duties include managing rental agreements, maintaining the membership database, tracking usage statistics, and handling membership and building usage fees.

An important part of the role is building positive relationships with youth and families participating in the programming, which requires excellent interpersonal and de-escalation skills. The Coordinator also actively supports seasonal events and fundraising activities, which may involve driving agency vehicles. This role demands a high level of confidentiality, leadership capabilities, and proficiency with PC and Microsoft Office products.

Candidates must meet several requirements, including having at least a high school diploma or equivalency, being 18 years or older, and holding current CPR and First Aid certifications or obtaining them within 90 days of employment. A valid driver’s license, passing background checks, and meeting Motor Vehicle Records (MVR) qualifications are necessary for this role. Physical demands require the ability to lift 20 pounds, participate actively in programs, and work in environments including office space and gymnasium settings with no remote work option. Work hours include evenings and weekends, and attendance at The Salvation Army Outdoors program within the first year is required.

The Salvation Army Minneapolis Parkview Corps values inclusivity and is an equal opportunity employer encouraging applications from US veterans, people with disabilities, those impacted by the justice system, and candidates without a college degree. The organization fosters a supportive, mission-driven workplace dedicated to making a lasting impact on the community. The Community Center Coordinator role is a chance to contribute meaningfully to a highly respected nonprofit focused on service and outreach while gaining valuable experience in program coordination and community engagement.
