Job Description

First Coast Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit organization dedicated to building and improving homes in partnership with families and the community, helping people achieve strength, stability, and self-reliance through shelter. As a reputable leader in the affordable housing sector, First Coast Habitat for Humanity focuses on impactful community projects and sustainable development. With a strong commitment to volunteer involvement and public engagement, the organization plays a critical role in supporting families in need and fostering community growth across the First Coast region. The organization operates various initiatives, including a ReStore operation that supports its mission through recycled building materials sales and community-focused projects. This internship is offered on a part-time basis, totaling approximately 180 hours, designed to provide meaningful project ownership and professional development in a supportive nonprofit environment.

The Communications Intern will have the valuable opportunity to support multiple facets of nonprofit communications, including marketing, branding, digital outreach, and community engagement efforts. Responsibilities include managing social media channels for the ReStore, creating and scheduling content that promotes merchandise and community impact, collaborating with staff to ensure brand alignment, and updating internal databases for property data accuracy. The intern will also assist with refining branded collateral materials, planning social media content calendars, and maintaining brand consistency across all materials and communications. Additional important duties are reviewing the organization's website for accessibility compliance, particularly focusing on ADA standards by adding alternative text to images, organizing and archiving digital photo assets systematically, leading and supporting volunteer initiatives like A Brush with Kindness, and representing First Coast Habitat for Humanity at community events.

This internship is structured to provide hands-on, practical experience with measurable learning outcomes by the conclusion of the 180-hour commitment. The intern will gain skills in social media strategy, content creation, brand management, website accessibility compliance, digital asset management, and public speaking. Beyond technical skills, this role offers the chance to engage with nonprofit mission-driven work, enhancing community connections and leadership abilities. The Communications Intern will develop a strong understanding of how communications and marketing support nonprofit goals and experience the impact of effective public outreach on organizational success. This exciting opportunity is ideal for individuals passionate about nonprofit work, community advocacy, and strategic communications, seeking to build a solid foundation for a career in these areas.
