Job Description

AWS Infrastructure Services is the backbone of Amazon Web Services, responsible for the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. As a critical division at AWS, this team ensures the continuous availability and performance of the cloud services that power some of the world's largest and most innovative companies. This includes supporting AWS data centers worldwide and managing all components such as servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling systems. Our mission is to enable customers to access cutting-edge technological resources reliably and securely. The team confronts complex challenges involving thousands of variables impacting supply chain logistics and facility operations, all while maintaining the highest standards for safety, security, and operational excellence.

Joining AWS Infrastructure Services means becoming part of a diverse and dynamic team comprising software, hardware, and network engineers; supply chain experts; security professionals; operations managers; and many other roles vital to the success of AWS. Our culture fosters innovation, collaboration, and ownership, empowering individuals to bring bold ideas to life and see them through to completion. We believe in inclusive teamwork and continuously seek talented professionals eager to contribute to the future of cloud infrastructure.

The role of Data Center Commissioning Engineer (CxE) is a fast-paced and highly technical position focused on ensuring the quality and reliability of Amazon's owned data centers. The Commissioning Engineer acts as a key stakeholder in verifying that all electrical and mechanical systems meet stringent design and operational criteria before they are fully deployed. These systems include, but are not limited to, medium and low voltage power, generators, uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), HVAC systems such as air handlers and exhaust fans, chilled water and hydronic systems, building management systems (BMS), electrical power monitoring systems (EPMS), and testing and balancing operations.

As a CxE, you will collaborate closely with vendors, contractors, and internal teams to lead factory witness testing, pre-functional and functional testing, and integrated systems testing. This role demands strong technical problem-solving skills complemented by effective project and vendor management capabilities. You will be responsible for reviewing design documents and equipment submittals, managing third-party commissioning vendors onsite, ensuring compliance with environmental, quality, and safety standards, and delivering comprehensive progress reports to regional management. The ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 25% of the year is also required for providing onsite support and coordination.

Every day as a Commissioning Engineer brings new challenges and opportunities to work across multiple disciplines, including engineering, capacity delivery, and operations, to ensure projects meet milestones and deliver reliable data center capacity. Your work will include prioritizing tasks, escalating issues as needed to keep projects on track, sharing lessons learned with peers to improve team performance, and contributing to program enhancements. This role offers the chance to lead multiple projects simultaneously, manage budgets approved by finance, and make a direct impact on the foundation that supports AWS's cloud services.

AWS is the world’s most comprehensive and widely adopted cloud platform, trusted by startups to Global 500 companies alike. Our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion ensures a welcoming environment for professionals from various backgrounds and experiences. At AWS, we prioritize work-life harmony and offer a flexible work culture that supports employees in achieving success without compromising their personal lives. We are committed to ongoing learning and development through mentorship, knowledge sharing, and a range of employee-led affinity groups and initiatives.

If you are passionate about infrastructure, have a keen eye for detail, and thrive in a collaborative environment where innovation and operational rigor meet, this role at AWS Infrastructure Services is an exceptional opportunity to advance your career while contributing to the foundation of modern cloud computing.
