Job Description
Grand Central Bakery, founded in 1989, has been a pioneer in revolutionizing bread and pastry offerings in the Northwest region by introducing rustic artisan loaves to local tables. As a Certified B Corporation, this bakery is more than just a place where bread is made; it is part of a global movement that uses business as a force for good. Sustainability is deeply embedded in every aspect of the company, from sourcing high-quality and ethically obtained ingredients to fostering an inclusive and supportive work environment. The bakery is committed to investing in its communities and upholding values that prioritize environmental stewardship and social responsibility. This dedication is reflected in the respectful treatment of employees and customers alike, a hallmark of Grand Central Bakery's culture.
The current opening is for the position of Commissary Pastry Baker 1 in Grand Central Bakery's Pastry Production Kitchen. This role offers the opportunity to join a mission-driven production team that operates with a strong emphasis on quality and consistency. The bakery produces frozen pastries that supply all its cafes and various wholesale clients, ensuring a broad reach and significant impact within the community. With flexible work schedules including daytime shifts and no overnight hours, this role is designed to accommodate work-life balance, making it attractive for individuals seeking a dynamic yet supportive workplace.
As a Commissary Pastry Baker 1, you will be primarily responsible for producing large quantities of high-quality, delicious, and consistent pastries using mechanized equipment. This position demands great attention to detail, a commitment to continuous skill improvement in production baking, and the ability to collaborate effectively within a fast-paced team environment. Being the entry-level role among three stages of commissary pastry baking, it provides a solid foundation for growth within the company’s pastry production hierarchy.
This role is compensated at $21.74 per hour, classified as non-exempt, and eligible for overtime. Reporting lines include the Pastry Manager and Pastry Baker Leads, ensuring strong supervision and mentorship. Flexibility in scheduling is essential as the bakery operates every day of the year, including weekends and holidays. Employees are expected to maintain a positive impact, communicate informally but effectively, be team players, uphold high standards, show initiative, adapt to change, focus on results, and demonstrate drive and energy.
In summary, Grand Central Bakery offers a unique opportunity to work for a socially responsible, sustainability-focused company that values its employees and the communities it serves. The Commissary Pastry Baker 1 role is perfect for those with a passion for artisan pastry production, an eagerness to refine their craft, and a desire to be part of a collaborative and mission-driven team that leads the industry in both quality and corporate responsibility.
