The bakery operates every day of the year, emphasizing commitment and reliability in its service and production.\n\nThe role of the Cook at Grand Central Bakery is a vital position primarily focused on the cold side kitchen operations. This entry-level role in a series of three cook levels requires a dedicated team player who is detail-oriented and eager to enhance their culinary skills continually. The Cook is charged with the consistent and efficient preparation of cold side kitchen products, including salads, condiments, some oven roasted items, sliced meats, cheeses, and soup preparations. They are also responsible for maintaining the organization and inventory of walk-in coolers, ensuring the timely stocking and readiness of ingredients and products for the following day. This includes rigorous adherence to food safety standards such as GMP, HAACP, and food defense protocols to maintain a safe and hygienic kitchen environment. Additionally, the Cook assists Senior Cooks with various responsibilities, contributing to an efficient and collaborative kitchen atmosphere. Competencies essential to this role include high standards, problem-solving, decision-making, self-objectivity, planning, communication, teamwork, and an energetic drive to produce results. The role demands flexibility with working hours, including weekends, and involves physically engaging tasks such as standing for long periods, walking, lifting, and repetitive arm motions. Compensation for this role is $21.09 per hour, with non-exempt status and eligibility for overtime. Job Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • ability to read, write, and speak basic English
  • maintains a valid Food Handler's Card
  • high school diploma or GED preferred
  • basic math skills required
  • professional experience as a prep cook
  • may be required to work a variety of days and shifts including weekends and holidays
  • demonstrates regular attendance and punctuality

Job Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • ability to read, write, and speak basic English
  • English-Spanish bilingual preferred
  • maintains a valid Food Handler's Card
  • high school diploma or GED preferred
  • basic math skills required
  • professional experience as a prep cook
  • experience signing invoices and checking in deliveries preferred

Job Duties

  • Maintains a clean and organized workstation
  • competently performs tasks in dishwasher, lettuce washing, slicing, packing, cold prep, and light oven work
  • trains staff on Level I stations
  • prepares test recipes
  • checks in and signs all orders and invoices
  • organizes dry storage and walk-ins
  • meets timing goals for all stations and projects
  • assists hot prep station with roasted meats and basic hot prep items
  • communicates daily, seasonal, and special information with the crew including product details, systems, portions, sourcing standards, and labor goals
  • uses preparedness skills to support organized workspace
  • follows all food safety requirements including GMP, HAACP, and food defense
