Job Description
Warm Signal Collective is a dynamic food service company based in Central Texas, specifically serving the Austin area. Backed by the parent company Semillas Management LLC, Warm Signal Collective focuses on building an innovative network of small kitchens spread throughout different neighborhoods of Austin. The core of their operation thrives on one or two central commissaries that supply these kitchens with high-quality, perfectly prepped ingredients and dishes. This networked kitchen model allows for efficient, standardized cooking processes across multiple locations, delivering consistent culinary experiences for their customers. The company holds a strong commitment to quality, operational excellence, and growth within the food production landscape of Texas.
The role of Commissary Prep Chef at Warm Signal Collective is a full-time, onsite position offering an annual salary range of $50,000 to $60,000, depending on experience. This role is pivotal to the company as it involves overseeing the production process within the central commissary kitchen. The primary responsibility is to ensure every food batch meets the detailed recipe specifications and quality standards before it is distributed to various kitchen locations. The seasonality of the dishes, the consistency of taste and portion sizes, and the accuracy in production are key factors that determine success in this position.
Your journey as a Commissary Prep Chef begins with clear, well-documented recipes and batch specifications. Rigorous training is provided initially so you can become intimately familiar with the preparation expectations and systems in place. This prepares you to manage large volumes of food preparation with precision and speed. The role emphasizes both consistency and efficiency — executing recipes exactly as designed at scale, reducing waste, and controlling costs to ensure profitability and sustainability.
Moreover, this position is not just about following instructions; it’s a growing leadership role within the kitchen dynamic. After you become comfortable with standard operating procedures, your insights and feedback will be sought to help evolve recipes and processes. Your creative input is welcomed and encouraged, allowing you to shape menu items and operational workflows. Essentially, this role is for someone who wants to prove their mettle in high-volume, cost-conscious production and grow into a leadership position with real ownership.
The work culture at Warm Signal Collective is collaborative and close-knit, with a small team that values transparency and honest communication. Every team member, including you, will be crucial in maintaining the integrity of food safety, quality, and timely delivery. Safety standards such as HACCP are strictly adhered to, and you are expected to proactively uphold these without constant reminders.
Employment at Warm Signal Collective also comes with tangible benefits including 10 paid time-off days available from the first day, optional enrollment in Direct Primary Care for accessible healthcare, and clear career progression opportunities as the commissary and network expand. This is a perfect opportunity for culinary professionals with a passion for food prep and operations to join a growing company, to exercise craftsmanship at scale, and to develop their career in a supportive environment.
