Job Description
The Maintenance Technician position is a critical role within our facilities management team, dedicated to preserving the safety, functionality, and comfort of multiple properties we oversee. Our company manages various properties, with a strong commitment to providing high-quality maintenance and operational support that ensures seamless living and working environments for all tenants and users. Operating primarily in Silver Spring, MD, and occasionally supporting an additional site in West Grove, PA, our facilities are a mix of residential and commercial properties that require regular upkeep and expert attention to mechanical and structural systems to maintain their optimal operation.
We are looking to hire a full-time Maintenance Technician who will be instrumental in performing routine maintenance and repairs across our properties. This includes crucial systems maintenance such as electrical, plumbing, heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC), as well as structural upkeep. This role offers an excellent opportunity for individuals who have a hands-on approach and enjoy problem-solving in a dynamic environment. In addition to routine inspections and repairs, the Maintenance Technician will support preventive maintenance schedules established by the Property Manager, respond quickly and professionally to any emergency maintenance needs, and assist external vendors and contractors as needed, ensuring smooth coordination.
The technician will be responsible for maintaining accurate logs and detailed documentation of all maintenance activities, supporting seasonal facility tasks such as snow removal and landscaping preparation, and ensuring all work is compliant with safety standards and building codes. The role requires travel between two primary properties based in Silver Spring, MD, with occasional visits once or twice monthly to a third property in West Grove, PA. Mileage reimbursement is provided for these site visits, emphasizing the mobility aspect of this role.
An ideal candidate will possess a high school diploma or equivalent, with additional technical or trade training considered a plus. Prior experience of at least two years in building maintenance or a related field is essential, along with proficiency in general handyman skills that cover basic plumbing, electrical repairs, HVAC, and carpentry. Familiarity with Building Automation Systems (BAS) and an understanding of HVAC operation and controls are required for success in this role. The ability to read blueprints, manuals, and schematics is preferred but not mandatory.
Strong communication, problem-solving abilities, and effective time management skills are important, as is a clear understanding of when to escalate tasks to licensed specialists to maintain compliance and safety guidelines. Physical capability to handle the demands of this role—including lifting, bending, climbing, and working in variable conditions—is necessary. Candidates must possess a valid driver’s license and have reliable transportation to support travel between properties.
Overall, this position offers the chance to work in an engaging environment where your maintenance skills will have a tangible impact on the quality and safety of multiple important properties. The Maintenance Technician will be an essential team member in helping us uphold our commitment to excellence in property management and tenant satisfaction.
