The Class A Commercial Driver opportunity at Smurfit Westrock represents a vital role within the company's logistics and distribution operations. This position involves operating a company tractor and trailer to safely and efficiently deliver packaging products to customers. Typically, driver routes consist of 4-10 stops per day, requiring the driver to carefully unload products using a lift gate and a pallet jack, and then transport and place palletized goods inside customers’ facilities. Routes are generally under 150 miles round trip, though some assignments may extend longer distances, including interstate travel depending on the distribution center location. The work schedule is Monday through Friday with a 5am to 7am start, averaging 10-hour workdays, ensuring drivers are home every night. Hours beyond eight per day are compensated as overtime.
Class A Drivers are expected to comply with all state and federal regulations, including the use of Electronic Logging Devices (ELD) to accurately log all activity. In addition to driving responsibilities, the role emphasizes providing outstanding customer service, performing vehicle inspections, and adhering strictly to safety standards established by the Department of Transportation (DOT), the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and Smurfit Westrock’s own safety programs. This role offers competitive pay ranging from $29 to $30 per hour, reflecting the skills and experience required.
