The role of IHOP Combo’s / Bussers / Dish Machine Operators (DMO) is essential to the restaurant's operations. DMOs play a critical role in maintaining cleanliness and sanitation by efficiently managing dishware, utensils, and other kitchen items. This position involves cleaning, sorting, and washing all restaurant dishware and utensils, ensuring they meet hygiene and safety standards. In addition, DMOs handle sanitation tasks, support food safety protocols, and assist with housekeeping duties to maintain an orderly dining and service area.

DMOs must demonstrate excellent communication skills, maintain good working relationships with teammates, and operate in a physically demanding environment, involving standing for extended periods and handling objects up to 50 pounds. The role requires mobility and dexterity to perform repetitive washing and cleaning tasks effectively while complying with company and government health guidelines. DMOs also support restaurant operations as assigned by supervisors and managers, including participation in food safety evaluations, health inspections, and guest complaint resolution processes.

This position is critical for ensuring customer satisfaction by contributing to a clean, well-stocked, and welcoming restaurant ambiance. IHOP provides thorough training to DMOs to ensure adherence to its SOPs, and the job requires a proactive and cooperative attitude, along with the ability to prioritize tasks and maintain a clean working environment. Job Requirements

  • Preferred minimal work experience as a dishwasher
  • Must be proficient in operating with different types of dishes

Job Qualifications

  • No prior experience or training is required
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos
  • Ability to understand oral instructions in English and read English or Spanish well enough to understand simple correspondence, communicate with customers, and read instructions, warning, and safety labels
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
  • IHOP training coursework as assigned

Job Duties

  • Develop and maintain professional and functional working relationships with IHOP employees and customers
  • Pick up, sort, and wash all china, silverware, glassware, pots, pans, utensils, etc.
  • Follow dish machine and/or sink procedures per IHOP SOP
  • Perform food safety evaluations (FSE), LTO training, A/B status, operations excellence (OE), health department inspections (HDI) per IHOP SOP
  • Execute the guest relations for NGC – Normalized Guest Complaints Index per IHOP SOP to ensure quality guest experience
  • Unload, unbox, rotate, and store food, equipment, and supplies as necessary
  • Stock and rotate all needed supplies in the service area and dining room
  • Comply with all local, state, and SOP health, sanitation, and safety guidelines
  • Dispose of trash properly
  • Check restrooms every half hour to ensure proper stocking levels and supplies and the cleanliness of the facilities
  • Clean, clear, manicure, re-set tables, clean chairs, booths, and floors
  • Perform all cleaning duties according to posted cleaning charts
  • Comply with IHOP uniform and appearance standards per IHOP SOP guidelines
  • Perform other assignments or tasks as assigned by the General Manager, Assistant Manager, or acting supervisor
