The current opportunity is for a full-time Cold Food (Salad) position located at Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, NY. This role involves preparing and serving various cold food items such as sandwiches and salads, with responsibilities including slicing delicatessen meats, cheeses, and vegetables using slicing machines or other tools to meet approved production standards. Successful candidates will play a vital role in maintaining quality, portion control, and food safety standards in a fast-paced healthcare environment. The Cold Food position requires adherence to company service standards, inventory control procedures, and sanitation protocols including ServSafe and HACCP. Work schedules are full-time with variable days and hours, including rotating weekends and holidays, ensuring alignment with operational requirements. The fixed pay rate for this position is $17.97 per hour, reflecting the company’s commitment to fair and competitive compensation. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Previous food service experience preferred
  • Ability to work full-time with rotating weekends and holidays
  • Ability to comply with sanitation and safety standards
  • Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting and standing
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced healthcare food service environment
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and maintain quality standards

Job Qualifications

  • Previous food service experience preferred
  • Ability to operate slicing machines and kitchen equipment
  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices
  • Good communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to follow food production standards and recipes
  • Basic math skills for portion control
  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods
  • Ability to lift and carry food trays and equipment safely

Job Duties

  • Obtain daily production schedule and preparation requirements from Chef
  • Prepare sandwich meats, cheeses, condiments and salads using approved production standards to ensure proper quality, serving temperatures and standard portion control
  • Stock and replenish deli/cold products and condiments following approved merchandising guidelines
  • Carry pans, kettles and trays of food to and from workstation, stove and refrigerator
  • Store food in designated areas following HACCP standard wrapping, dating and rotation procedures
  • Clean, sanitize and maintain counters, work surfaces, refrigeration units and floors in the preparation and serving areas
  • Place meat, cheese or vegetables on cutting board and cut slices to designated thickness
  • Position and clamp meat or cheese on slicing machine carriage
  • Adjust machine for desired thickness and operate slicing machine
  • Interact with coworkers to ensure compliance with company service standards, inventory and cash control procedures
  • Maintain clean, safe work environment to comply with sanitation, ServSafe and safety requirements
  • Perform other duties as assigned
