The Coffee Shop Barista position is a part-time regular role within the Culinary/Hospitality Department, located in Lincoln, and categorized under support staff. The role offers an hourly wage of $15.32 and operates on a flexible schedule generally between 6:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, based on a 29-hour workweek. This role is integral to the day-to-day operations of the College's Course Ground Coffee Shop, where the barista will work under the supervision of the Culinary/Hospitality Program Director and the Coffee Shop Manager. The position demands maintaining a clean, organized, and sanitary facility to serve as an exemplary learning environment for students. The barista supports service operations and educational instruction by assisting in food preparation, equipment maintenance, service setup, and adherence to safety and sanitation standards.
In this role, the barista functions as a key team member to uphold the high standards of the Culinary/Hospitality program and promote a welcoming culture of belonging for all students, staff, and guests. Responsibilities include washing and sanitizing dishes and utensils, ensuring proper setup of the coffee shop for service, and assisting during staff absences. The position also involves occasional work across different campus locations and varied hours based on the college's operational needs, including special activities or emergencies. Applicants must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, maintain the Lancaster County Food Handler Permit, and demonstrate excellent communication and basic computer skills. Job Duties
- Assist the managers and chef in coffee shop service operations and educational program courses
- maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary facility
- keep all equipment clean and well-maintained
- wash and sanitize dishes, utensils, and food service equipment
- ensure the coffee shop is properly set up for service
- support and maintain the standards of the Culinary/Hospitality program and Great Plains Culinary Institute
- assist in performing co-workers' duties in their absence
