Job Description
Insight for Living is a renowned ministry dedicated to excellence in teaching and applying God’s Word, founded in 1979 by Chuck Swindoll and his wife, Cynthia. Starting with a modest broadcast on 18 stations, Insight for Living has dramatically expanded its reach, now airing on over 2,000 stations, accessible through numerous online streaming services, and heard across 70 countries in eight different languages. The ministry goes beyond radio broadcasting by producing high-quality Bible study resources, offering pastoral counseling, and supporting listeners through life’s various challenges. Insight for Living is passionately committed to its strategic mission known as Vision 195, which aims to fulfill Jesus’ Great Commission by sharing God's grace and making disciples in all 195 countries and 6,875 unique heart languages worldwide.
Insight for Living operates not only from its international headquarters in Frisco, Texas but also has ministry offices in 10 countries. These offices are responsible for translating biblical resources, training church leaders to effectively use Chuck Swindoll’s Searching the Scriptures Bible-study methodology, serving local communities, and collectively advancing Vision 195 in their native dialects. Joining Insight for Living means becoming part of a gifted team of men and women who are uniquely called and empowered to impact lives globally through the transformative power of God’s Word.
The Coffee Shop Barista role at Insight for Living provides a dynamic opportunity to deliver exceptional customer experiences by serving specialty coffee and food, while also fostering meaningful customer relationships that align with the ministry's values. This position requires commitment to quality, efficiency, and a proactive approach to managing all coffee shop duties. The barista acts as an ambassador of the ministry’s mission and strives to maintain the highest standards of service and product quality. This part-time role demands availability on Wednesday and Saturday afternoons and some weekend and holiday shifts, emphasizing both reliability and flexibility.
The barista position involves preparing and delivering drinks to meet specialty coffee standards, creating a customer-friendly and productive environment, and upholding best practices for daily operations including health, safety, inventory, and merchandising. The role also requires meticulous documentation related to operations, inventory management, and equipment upkeep. The barista is expected to interact with customers warmly and effectively, managing emotions appropriately to foster a healthy, positive atmosphere. Attentive listening and rapport-building are key elements of this role.
In addition to beverage preparation and customer service, the barista is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of the coffee shop according to strict schedules and checklists, using proper cleaning materials and maintaining the highest standards of sanitation and orderliness. Professionalism in communication, adherence to Insight for Living policies, consistent attendance, and managing workplace stress are essential to success in this position.
Technical skills are important in delivering superior coffee experiences quickly and accurately, using point-of-sale and other job-related technologies effectively. The role also includes a customer experience philosophy centered on anticipating and fulfilling guest needs while balancing organizational goals with customer satisfaction.
Professional development is encouraged through commitment to ongoing learning and excellence in assigned tasks. Baristas are also expected to embody Insight for Living’s core values, showing initiative and accountability in improving coffee shop and organizational operations. This position suits an individual with a strong work ethic, attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and a heart for service and spiritual mission integration.
