The role of Coffee Shop Barista at Hy-Vee is a vital position within the store, focused on delivering exceptional customer service through the preparation and presentation of coffee, beverages, and related food items. This non-exempt position is part of the coffee shop department and reports to several supervisory roles including the Coffee Shop Department Manager, Store Manager, and other store leaders. The barista is responsible not only for the safe handling and quality assurance of the products but also for maintaining a clean and organized work environment. Job Requirements

Less than high school or equivalent experience
six months or less of similar or related work experience
ability to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or verbal instructions
ability to do simple addition and subtraction
ability to understand and follow verbal or demonstrated instructions
ability to request supplies orally or in writing
must be able to physically perform medium work exerting up to 50 pounds occasionally
ability to see clearly at distances between 20 inches and 20 feet with or without correction
must be able to perform physical activities such as climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions
ability to work under pressure and handle multiple priorities

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

Provide prompt, efficient and friendly customer service by exhibiting caring, concern and patience in all customer interactions
smile and greet customers in a friendly manner
make an effort to learn customers’ names and address them by name
assist customers by escorting them to products, securing out-of-reach products, loading or unloading heavy items, noting and passing along customer suggestions
answer telephone promptly and provide friendly, helpful service including taking orders
take customer orders at the counter
work with co-workers as a team to ensure customer satisfaction and pleasant work environment
handle food safely and maintain clean and neat work area
review status and appearance of food for freshness
ensure adequate food supply is ready
anticipate product needs daily
prepare and replenish product as necessary
check in product, put away stock and review invoices
run department registers and process payments
remove trash timely
maintain adherence to personal hygiene and dress guidelines
adhere to company policies and store guidelines
report to work on time
