This position is for a Barista within Hy-Vee's Coffee Shop department, classified as a non-exempt role. The barista will play a crucial role in delivering a positive customer experience by preparing and serving coffee and related products with speed, accuracy, and friendliness. The Barista is responsible for reviewing and fulfilling customer orders daily, maintaining food safety standards, and ensuring cleanliness in the workplace. The role demands a service-oriented attitude, as providing courteous and efficient customer service is at the core of daily responsibilities. Baristas at Hy-Vee are expected to engage with customers in a sincere and friendly manner, including greeting customers by name when possible, and assisting with their needs to enhance their overall shopping experience.

Beyond drink preparation, the Barista supports store operations by assisting in inventory management, including receiving and putting away products, replenishing supplies, and adhering to production plans to meet daily demand. The job also requires handling cash registers when applicable, maintaining hygiene standards, and following company policies. Teamwork is emphasized to ensure a harmonious work environment and customer satisfaction. The Barista may also be involved in secondary tasks like washing dishes, ordering supplies, pricing products, and assisting other store departments as needed.

The role is physically demanding, requiring the ability to exert force in moving objects up to 50 pounds occasionally and perform various physical activities such as standing, walking, reaching, and repetitive motions. Working conditions include exposure to noise, equipment hazards, cleaning chemicals, and variable temperatures. The Barista will use standard coffee shop equipment including disposals, trash compactors, dishwashers, registers, ice machines, pop machines, scales, and knives. This position offers an opportunity to work daily with the general public and provide a friendly, helpful face while contributing to the smooth operation of Hy-Vee’s coffee shop.
