The role of Barista at Hy-Vee's Coffee Shop department is a vital position focused on delivering high-quality customer experiences and maintaining excellent operational standards within the coffee shop environment. Key responsibilities include greeting and assisting customers warmly, learning and using customers’ names when possible, taking orders promptly, and ensuring product freshness. The Barista also handles cash register operations where applicable, assists with order stocking, monitors inventory, and adheres strictly to Hy-Vee’s safety and hygiene policies. Secondary duties include washing dishes, placing product and supply orders, pricing products, and supporting other store areas as needed. Physical requirements for this role include the ability to perform medium-level physical work, such as lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally and regularly engaging in activities like standing, walking, and reaching.

Job Requirements
- Ability to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or verbal instructions
- Ability to do simple addition and subtraction
- Ability to understand and follow verbal or demonstrated instructions
- Less than high school education or equivalent experience
- Six months or less of similar or related work experience
- Must be able to perform medium physical work including lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally
- Must have clarity of vision, color vision, depth perception and field of vision with or without correction
- Must be able to perform physical activities such as climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions
- Night and weekend shifts required
- Employment contingent upon successful completion of pre-employment drug screen
Job Qualifications
- Less than high school education or equivalent experience
- Six months or less of similar or related work experience
- Ability to carry out detailed but uncomplicated instructions
- Ability to perform simple math operations including addition and subtraction
- Ability to understand and follow verbal or demonstrated instructions
- Capable of writing identifying information and requesting supplies properly

Job Duties
- Provides prompt, efficient and friendly customer service by exhibiting caring, concern and patience in all customer interactions and treating customers as the most important people in the store
- Smiles and greets customers in a friendly manner, whether in the coffee shop or elsewhere in the store
- Makes an effort to learn customers' names and to address them by name whenever possible
- Assists customers by escorting them to products, securing products out of reach, loading or unloading heavy items, passing along suggestions, and enhancing the shopping experience
- Answers telephone promptly and provides helpful service including taking customer orders
- Takes customer orders at the counter
- Works as a team with co-workers to ensure customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment
- Handles food safely and ensures the work area is clean and neat
- Reviews the status and appearance of food for freshness
- Ensures adequate food supply is ready and follows production list
- Anticipates product needs daily
- Prepares and replenishes product as necessary
- Checks in product, puts product away, and reviews invoices as needed
- Operates registers and handles payments where applicable
- Removes trash promptly
- Maintains strict adherence to personal hygiene and dress guidelines
- Adheres to company policies and store guidelines
- Reports to work scheduled and on time
