Job Description
Marriott International is a global leader in the hospitality industry, known for its commitment to excellence and guest satisfaction. Among its prestigious brands, JW Marriott stands out as part of Marriott's luxury portfolio, boasting over 100 beautiful hotels located in prominent cities and exclusive resort destinations worldwide. Marriott International takes pride in fostering a welcoming and inclusive work environment where diversity is celebrated, and every employee is valued. The company actively promotes equal employment opportunities and ensures a workplace free from discrimination, supporting individuals with disabilities, veterans, and people from various backgrounds and experiences. At Marriott, employees are seen as the cornerstone of success, reflecting the brand's belief that if the associates are happy, guests will be too. Marriott's reputation for hospitality innovation and maintaining familiar comforts worldwide makes it a sought-after employer in the lodging and food and beverage industry.
This position is a full-time, non-management role located at 1777 Walker St, Houston, Texas. The role is within the Food and Beverage & Culinary category, specifically with JW Marriott, which is dedicated to delivering outstanding culinary and customer service experiences. The team's focus is on ensuring guests receive excellent service while maintaining a welcoming and professional atmosphere.
The role entails a broad range of responsibilities related to opening and closing duties, organizing provisions and necessary tools, cleaning equipment and work areas, securing the premises, and handling orders efficiently using the MICROS point-of-sale system. The employee will be responsible for preparing food and coffee, taking and processing guest orders, maintaining the cleanliness of tables, utensils, and equipment throughout the workday, and ensuring proper cash handling including making change and reconciling the register at shift end. This position requires adherence to company policies and security procedures, including reporting maintenance issues, safety hazards, accidents, or injuries, and completing safety training and certifications. The hospitality professional will maintain a clean, polished uniform and a professional appearance at all times.
In addition to physical tasks such as moving, lifting, and manipulating objects up to 25 pounds, standing or walking for long shifts, visually inspecting equipment, and consistent communication with guests and colleagues, this role demands a high level of professionalism, courtesy, and teamwork. Employees must also ensure privacy of company information and property, support teammates in achieving common goals, and meet quality assurance standards. This hands-on role will place the employee at the heart of the guest experience, requiring clear and professional communication skills including telephone etiquette.
The ideal candidate will possess at least a high school diploma or equivalent, such as a General Educational Development (GED) certificate. While no prior related work or supervisory experience is required, the candidate should be ready to engage in a fast-paced, guest-focused environment. Previous experience in hospitality or food service is a plus but not mandatory. There are no licensing or certification requirements beyond completing mandatory company safety training.
JW Marriott offers a unique work environment that values innovation, genuine service, and professional growth. Employees become part of a vibrant community and enjoy opportunities for training, development, and recognition. The company emphasizes the holistic well-being of its employees and provides a workplace where employees can follow their passion for hospitality within a luxurious setting. Joining JW Marriott means becoming part of a distinguished global team where you can perform at your best, fulfill your purpose, and continually grow into your best version, all while contributing to Marriott's promise of delivering "A wonderful hotel experience, always."
