The cocktail position at PBR Cary is pivotal to delivering the exceptional service and dynamic vibe the bar is famous for. This role demands a friendly, energetic, and professional individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment. The cocktail server will be responsible for greeting guests with a warm welcome, taking beverage and food orders promptly, and delivering drinks efficiently, all while upselling menu items to maximize customer satisfaction and sales. Beyond just serving drinks, the cocktail server functions as a vital part of the guest experience by communicating effectively with guests and coworkers, maintaining cleanliness and order behind the bar area, and ensuring compliance with all alcohol service regulations.

Job Requirements

  • At least 1 year of serving experience in a fast-paced food and beverage venue
  • must meet state legal age requirements
  • ability to communicate effectively in English
  • must be courteous, pleasant, and professional
  • alcohol awareness certification or valid food handler card if required by local or state laws
  • ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting up to 50 pounds
  • ability to stand and move efficiently during shifts
  • willingness to work nights, weekends, and holidays

Job Qualifications

  • At least 1 year of serving experience in a fast-paced food and beverage venue, preferably nightclub environment
  • knowledge of liquor brands, beer, wine, champagne, non-alcoholic beverages, designated glassware, preparation methods, and garnishments preferred
  • must meet state legal age requirements
  • must speak fluent English, other languages preferred
  • must be courteous, pleasant, and good-natured
  • strong communication skills for interactions with guests, bartenders, wait staff, cooks, and supervisors
  • alcohol awareness certification and/or food service permit or valid health/food handler card as required by local or state government
  • reading and writing abilities for order taking and paperwork
  • basic math skills for handling cash and credit transactions
  • willingness to work nights, weekends, and/or holidays

Job Duties

  • Greet all guests and take beverage and food orders in a prompt and professional manner
  • serve cocktails and/or menu items to bar guests
  • up-sell when taking orders
  • show energy, outgoing personality, and professionalism at all times
  • provide outstanding and professional service with a smile
  • communicate effectively and clearly with co-workers and kitchen staff verbally and via point of sales system
  • communicate with guests clearly, patiently, and with good humor
  • be well-versed in all concept products and menu items to guide guest experience and sell food and beverage items
  • consistently check guests' identification to ensure minimum age requirements
  • monitor guest behavior and alcohol consumption to determine when to cease alcohol service
  • notify management of excessive alcohol consumption or impaired guests
  • complete all assigned side work
  • accurately account for all sales and payments
  • alert management of service or safety issues
  • make appropriate service recovery gestures
  • promote teamwork and quality service through communication with other departments
  • coordinate with bartenders and kitchen for ordering and receipt of food and beverages
