Job Description

Sodexo is a global leader in the food services and facilities management industry, partnering with a diverse array of clients to provide superior dining experiences and integrated services across various sectors, including educational institutions like Austin Peay State University. Sodexo operates with a mission to improve the daily lives of individuals and foster sustainable progress in the communities it serves worldwide. This commitment to service excellence and social responsibility positions Sodexo as an employer of choice, dedicated to creating inclusive and respectful workplaces where employees are empowered to thrive.

Located at Austin Peay State University, the role of Cook offered by Sodexo is a full-time position with a competitive pay range between $14.00 and $18.00 per hour. The working shifts primarily occur in the afternoon and evening, with variable days including some weekends and holidays, accommodating the dynamic nature of campus dining services. University students, including international students who have scheduling restrictions, are encouraged to explore student worker vacancies designed to fit their availability.

As a Cook at Sodexo, you will be a vital part of a team that not only prepares high-quality meals but also contributes significantly to reducing food waste and promoting sustainable kitchen practices. This role goes beyond cooking; it’s about delivering customer-centric service that enhances the dining experience for all patrons. Your passion for food, dedication to quality, and a warm, welcoming attitude will positively impact the lives of those you serve every day.

Your primary responsibilities will include preparing, portioning, cooking, and presenting both hot and cold foods with precision and efficiency across various meal periods such as breakfast, lunch, dinner, and special events or catering functions. Following recipes and product instructions carefully will ensure consistency and high standards in all food preparation. You may also be tasked with preparing made-to-order items and managing a grill station, all while adhering to strict hygiene and safety standards.

Reliability and punctuality are crucial, as maintaining regular attendance for scheduled shifts supports the smooth operation of Sodexo’s services. Flexibility is appreciated, as other duties may be assigned based on business needs and customer requirements across different accounts.

Selected candidates will be team-oriented, adaptable, and committed to fostering a safe and healthy work environment. Even candidates with little to no previous experience (0 to 2 years) in similar roles will be considered, highlighting Sodexo’s investment in developing talent and providing opportunities for growth. Training, continuous development, and advancement paths are integral parts of Sodexo’s employee value proposition, enabling you to transform your current job into a long-term career.

Sodexo’s comprehensive benefits package reflects its commitment to employee well-being and work-life balance. Benefits include paid time off, holidays, medical, dental, and vision insurance, tuition reimbursement, 401(k) plans, discount programs, and more. Some locations may offer additional perks such as free meals during shifts or subsidies, uniform provision, safety shoes, public transportation support, and parking facilities.

At its core, Sodexo values individuality and inclusion, fostering a culture where every voice matters and diversity is celebrated. It is an equal opportunity employer dedicated to fair treatment and respect for all employees regardless of race, color, religion, national origin, age, sex, gender identity, pregnancy, disability, sexual orientation, military status, veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.
