The Co-Manager (CM) role at Ulta Beauty is a pivotal leadership position aimed at driving the store's top-line sales growth while embodying the company’s mission, vision, and values. As a Co-Manager, you will lead the Operations Manager and be accountable for all operational aspects of a single retail store location. This position is designed to develop future leaders who demonstrate the potential and passion to do more. The CM is responsible for performance in various key areas such as sales, service, expense control, talent acquisition, training, development, operational processes, and compliance standards. This role demands a strong passion for process excellence, a robust drive for results, and the leadership ability to influence and develop a high-performing retail team.
A core responsibility of the Co-Manager is to promote a culture of accountability that consistently meets or exceeds store goals related to retail and service sales, guest loyalty (including credit sales), payroll, omni-channel integration, and retail shrink. The CM controls company profitability through operational excellence and expense management, works closely with store budgets to optimize staffing and productivity, and ensures timely and efficient completion of daily store workloads such as inventory management, planogram execution, and operational audits. Additionally, the Co-Manager actively engages guests by performing makeup applications, skincare analyses, and product demonstrations to enhance guest experience and drive sales.
Building and nurturing a diverse and engaged team is another critical component of the role. The CM attracts, hires, and retains top talent, fosters an inclusive environment that encourages growth and collaboration, and supports professional development through coaching, training, performance reviews, succession planning, and individualized development plans. Success in this role also involves modeling teamwork and operational excellence, supporting the Guest Engagement Leader program, and leading by example through collaboration within the leadership team.
Operationally, the Co-Manager ensures full compliance with Ulta Beauty’s policies, procedures, and standards, including adherence to the dress code. They manage inventory life-cycles effectively, utilize scheduling and task management tools for operational efficiency, enforce company standards for loss prevention, workplace safety, and cash management, and drive continuous improvement by leveraging company programs and technology. Communication with field leadership about business trends and opportunities is also essential to the role.
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 2-3 years of fast-paced retail management or related experience, with a strong background in financial management, retail and leadership management. A bachelor's degree is preferred but not mandatory. The candidate should possess strong communication, collaboration, organizational skills, and the ability to perform effectively under pressure while adapting to change. Flexibility in work hours, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and willingness to travel overnight for off-site meetings, is required.

Job Requirements
- Work a flexible full-time schedule including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Attend off-site meetings which may require overnight travel
- Must be able to bend, push, reach, twist frequently during shift
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 40 lbs
- Continuous movement and coordination throughout the store during shifts
- Bachelor's degree preferred
