Atlas is deeply committed to sustainability and social responsibility, understanding that the future depends on collaborative efforts to protect and improve our environment at every project stage.
The role of Construction Materials Testing (CMT) Lab Technician at Atlas Technical Consultants in Lubbock, TX offers a compelling opportunity for individuals seeking to grow their career in construction material testing within a supportive and progressive work environment. This full-time entry-level position is tailored for someone with at least one year of relevant experience or a strong willingness to learn, focusing on laboratory testing of soils, aggregates, hot mix asphalt (HMA), and concrete to ensure compliance with Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) and ASTM standards. The technician will be instrumental in producing accurate and well-documented test results that uphold high quality standards and help maintain the integrity of infrastructure projects in the West Texas region.
The CMT Lab Technician will perform a variety of laboratory tests that are crucial to verifying material properties in accordance with strict TxDOT technical specifications. Responsibilities will include conducting material testing in a controlled lab setting, calibrating and maintaining sophisticated lab equipment, meticulously logging and documenting test data, and ensuring compliance with all safety and quality regulations. A key aspect of the position is the opportunity for professional development—technicians will be encouraged and supported to pursue certifications from the Texas Asphalt Pavement Association (TxAPA) and the American Concrete Institute (ACI), advancing their technical skills and career prospects.
Employees in this role will also occasionally provide field support, assisting with sampling and inspection duties, which allows for a dynamic work experience that combines laboratory precision with practical field applications. This position demands someone who can read and comprehend technical test procedures, specifications, and lab worksheets, and who possesses proficient skills in Microsoft Office applications used for documentation. Furthermore, adaptability and reliability are essential as there is some travel involved within the West Texas area, estimated to be up to 25% of the time.
Atlas offers a supportive and inclusive workplace culture, where safety and quality of life are core values. The company promotes a culture rooted in life, heart, trust, and mastery—enhancing quality of life, acting with empathy and respect, working with accountability and partnership, and striving for high-quality results. With a comprehensive employee experience program known as The A-Team Experience, Atlas ensures its workforce benefits from resources focused on health, wellness, career development, and community building. This program includes a variety of benefits such as medical, dental, vision insurance, paid time off, retirement plans with company match, disability insurance, and professional development opportunities.
Joining Atlas Technical Consultants means becoming part of a dedicated team committed to bettering communities through expert engineering and environmental services. If you are motivated to contribute toward significant infrastructure projects while continuously growing your expertise in a forward-thinking company, the CMT Lab Technician role offers a perfect platform for meaningful professional advancement in the construction materials testing industry.
