Job Description
Atlas is a renowned leader in environmental and infrastructure consulting services, dedicated to helping communities flourish and thrive through innovative, smart, and sustainable solutions. Established with a commitment to enhancing the quality of life in the communities where we live and work, Atlas operates with a vast team of 3,500 dedicated employees and maintains offices across the United States. This extensive network allows Atlas to combine local expertise with strong relationships, thereby delivering effective solutions to both public and private clients. Our company culture emphasizes responsibility for the future, safety, and quality at every stage of our projects, which positions us as a trusted partner in environmental and infrastructure consulting.
We are currently seeking to expand our team with the addition of a Construction Materials Testing (CMT) Lab Technician in Lubbock, supporting the West Texas area. This full-time position is an entry-level opportunity for candidates eager to launch or advance their career in construction materials testing. The role centers around performing laboratory testing on soils, aggregates, hot mix asphalt (HMA), and concrete, adhering strictly to TxDOT and ASTM standards. The technician will engage in precise, well-documented lab testing and will have the chance to grow professionally by working toward TxAPA and ACI certifications. This career path offers both technical skill development and an opportunity to contribute to meaningful infrastructure projects impacting local communities.
As a Construction Materials Testing Lab Technician at Atlas, your responsibilities will include conducting various material tests in the lab to ensure compliance with TxDOT specifications and quality requirements. You will be expected to calibrate and maintain laboratory equipment meticulously, document all test data accurately, and support occasional field sampling activities. Communication is key in this position, as you will relay test results and any anomalies to the Lab Manager, maintaining transparency and quality control. Adhering to all safety policies is mandatory to sustain a safe working environment, and active participation in training programs designed to advance your certifications is encouraged.
Ideal candidates will have at least one year of experience in construction materials testing, either in a laboratory or field setting; however, strong aptitude and a willingness to learn can also qualify prospective applicants. Essential skills include the ability to read and comprehend test procedures, specifications, and lab worksheets, combined with working knowledge of soils, aggregates, HMA, and concrete testing procedures. Candidates must hold a valid driver’s license and have proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and relevant documentation tools. Familiarity with TxDOT, ASTM, and AASHTO testing protocols is preferred but not mandatory. An ability to travel up to 25% of the time within the West Texas area for field support is also a requirement, alongside the willingness to transition between laboratory and field work as necessary.
At Atlas, we embrace a company culture grounded in values such as life, heart, trust, and mastery. We prioritize people and safety, act with compassion and respect, operate with full accountability, and strive for excellence in all we do. The company offers a comprehensive employee program known as the A-Team Experience, designed to support personal and professional growth. Benefits include multiple medical, dental, and vision plan options; paid time off and family support; retirement planning with 401(k) and company match; life and disability insurance; safety programs with reimbursed PPE; and ongoing learning and development opportunities. Employees are also supported through voluntary Employee Communities that foster a sense of belonging and shared purpose, with flexibility accommodations to manage work-life balance.
Atlas is an equal opportunity employer committed to creating an inclusive workplace free of discrimination. We invite motivated individuals ready to build a rewarding career to join our A-Team and contribute to projects that positively impact communities across Texas and beyond.
