The role of Cloud and Platform Architect (GCP Focused) is a critical position within TEKsystems, designed for an experienced and hands-on professional to lead the organization through its cloud transformation journey. This position is based in Orlando, FL, and is a contract-to-hire opportunity with a competitive pay range of $95.00 to $105.00 per hour. The primary objective of the role is to own and evolve the cloud and hybrid infrastructure as the company transitions from AWS to Google Cloud Platform (GCP).

This architect position calls for a technical authority and architectural owner responsible for ensuring the cloud platforms are scalable, secure, and cost-effective. The ideal candidate will possess deep architectural expertise in GCP with hands-on experience designing, operating, and optimizing cloud infrastructure. This role involves collaborating closely with infrastructure, networking, cybersecurity, and data teams to achieve seamless cloud migration and platform management. Beyond traditional architectural oversight, the individual is expected to have a hands-on engineering mindset, actively engaging in daily technical tasks and operations.

As the organization is currently migrating from AWS to GCP, the architect will serve as the primary leader and technical owner for cloud platforms, overseeing legacy AWS systems, limited Azure environments, and the newly evolved GCP infrastructure. A significant component of the role includes owning and maturing the GCP environment to support ongoing data lake initiatives and large-scale migration projects over the next two years.

The architect is tasked with acting as the technical gatekeeper for all platform tools and services, ensuring they fit the architectural standards, comply with security requirements, and are cost-efficient. Leadership in cloud migration projects will require coordination with implementation partners while maintaining architectural ownership and driving initiatives independently. The position necessitates strong change leadership and exceptional communication skills to work effectively across multiple teams and departments.

Technical responsibilities extend to managing cloud networking, DNS configurations, certificates, hybrid connectivity, identity and access management (including SSO and RBAC), and overall platform governance. The architect will also ensure operational readiness through monitoring, patching, and maintaining the infrastructure. Working closely with network, server, cybersecurity, and data analytics teams as well as managed service providers, the architect will help support and evolve CI/CD automation practices, including GitHub Enterprise-based deployments.

Continuous improvement is vital; the architect will proactively identify and implement enhancements in tooling, automation, reliability, cost management, and the overarching operating model. The role demands expertise in various technologies such as Windows Server, SQL Server, VPNs, tunnels, DNS, infrastructure scripting with PowerShell, cloud-native CI/CD pipelines, and Python for cross-cloud automation.

This position requires at least 8 years of experience in infrastructure, platform, or cloud engineering, including 4 or more years in a senior cloud or architecture-focused role. Proven ability to design and operate production cloud environments and experience in transitioning from on-premises infrastructure to cloud architectures are crucial. The candidate must have a demonstrated balance of hands-on execution capabilities combined with architectural leadership. The work schedule requires presence on-site in Houston, TX (City Centre / Beltway 8 area) four days per week with Fridays optionally remote, under a contract-to-hire engagement lasting six months initially.
